Compositors Window in VP18

Reyfox wrote on 12/16/2020, 4:42 AM

In VP17, if you go to View>Window>Compositors, a window in VP opens with all the effects you can use for compositing on a "blank" video track. I can drag any of the effects to the track with no problem.

In VP18, accessing Compositors window the same way as I did in VP17, the window it appears ok and populates. But, I can not drag any of the effects listed to a "blank" video track like I can in VP17. If I try, I get the red circle with a line through it, no matter where I try to drag and drop the effect.

Boris has BCC Match Move and other effects for example, that can only be accessed through Compositors. How can I access it now?

I don't have VP17 but in VP18 indeed I can't drag the effect to the clip,

looks I can only access BCC Match Move on the track - compositing mode.- custom

@Grazie
As Reyfox stated, "if you go to View>Window>Compositors, a window in VP opens with all the effects you can use for compositing"
Compositors Window is a separate window and is not part of the Media Generator Window.

@Reyfox - Yes, I know. I’m flagging-up potential convergence between the two Windows.

@Wiew showed me that using any of the compositing effects in the Compositors window of VP18 can only be applied at the track level, not event (clip) level.

I can drag any of the effects to VP18's track header or any blank space on a track for compositing the entire track.

I am assuming that different BorisFX plugins are expressly only for track compositing, while some others can be placed on both track and/or event clips. I just have to wrap my head around it... with only 1 functioning brain cell left, it's difficult at times.....

@Reyfox - You have a whole Brain Cell?? Beats my half one.

Is yours mutithreaded? Mine's only singlethreaded...😂

You should know about the difference between "filter" and "compositor".

Filter : The fx can only get access to one input, such as Glow, Blur, Edge detect. These only need one input to finish work. They don't need to get access to other event layer.

Compositor : The fx can access two or more inputs, such as BCC Primatte Studio. BCC Primatte Studio can remove the orignal green background of a picture and just make only portrait remaining. This feature just needs only one input, that's the picture.

But if you want to make the portrait edge more suited with your other background (not orignal background of this picture), you need to place the other background in a new second track. Then BCC Primatte Studio will get access to this "other background", and do some arithmetic to make portrait's edge more suited with the new background.

So BCC Primatte Studio need to read the portrait and the new background. It is not "filter" but "compositor".

In VEGAS Pro, Media FX, Event FX, Track FX and Output FX are all "filter". They just can read one input ;

Transition FX and Custom Composite Mode FX are "compositor". They can get access two imputs.

It is a pity that VEGAS Pro doesn't have a FX which can get access to more than two inputs. This greatly restrict BCC plugins' function in VEGAS Pro.

Take BCC Pin Art 3D for example, it actually needs 5 inputs at least, but VEGAS Pro only can provide it with one input, it greatly restrict BCC Pin Art 3D.

Of course, not only BCC Pin Art 3D, there are more other fxs is restricted.

Mine is single threaded too sadly, and it is becoming more difficult each day keeping up with everything... shuffling stuff in, taking stuff out of the ever shrinking brain cell.... 😉
