Crashes when edits are made during playback when autoripple is on

Norrin_Radd22 wrote on 10/13/2019, 4:08 PM

I can confirm this is happen every time now.

Vegas 16
Windows 10 64bit
64gb RAM
1080 gtx

If Autoripple is on, and my project is playing back and I say, delete a portion of video being played back, Vegas will continue playing audio, but is in fact, frozen. Needs to be hard reset.

When autoripple is on, if I delete the portion of video currently being played, Vegas crashes.

This is happening every time, and appears to only be happening to me now, as opposed to the last time I had Vegas open several weeks ago. Is there an option or something I may have toggled that would case this? I remember trying to optimize very slow playback last time I had Vegas open, but I can't remember what I changed. Perhaps you all know exactly where the problem lies?

I also have my videos turned in to video proxies. Not sure if that matters.

I appreciate the response. No help in that thread though. Seems like many others have had this same issue. Strange that there is no solution.

He gave you the link there to read & be aware that there's no help or answer there, cause thats happening since the SONY days. What you can do, is avoid deleting while portion of a video while playing.

Norrin_Radd22 wrote on 10/13/2019, 8:57 PM

Hmmm, that seems like a pretty weak solution for an enterprise level application. If it's such a known bug, why do they let you even do it? Does this also happen on your machine, and every machine, or is it a case by case basis? I am looking for the root cause so I can troubleshoot it myself, if nothing else.

Having said on the thread Stivi linked to that I could replicate this error in VP12, 13 and 14 (build 201) using HDV clips, today I can't replicate the error at all in VP13, 16 or 17, using CTRL-X or DELETE.

There's another discussion thread on it here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/freeze-when-cut-event-w-autoripple-while-playing--101730/

I don't think I had this problem several weeks ago, so something has changed. I am just not sure what. The threads offer some suggestions, but none of them lead me to an answer.

Okay this is getting to be too much. I don't even play the files anymore, and it freezes the second I try to delete something with auto-ripple turned on.

How do I troubleshoot this?

pierre-k wrote on 10/15/2019, 3:52 AM

solution - not to delete files at runtime or install Vegas 11. I have been warning about this error for 5 years. No result. first appeared in Vegas 12.

Norrin_Radd22 wrote on 10/15/2019, 4:03 AM

What if it happens even when not during runtime? What would the cause be? Could it possibly be a permission problem on my machine? Not sure how Vegas handles files in use in the program. But Windows 10 is kind of dicking me around already. Just trying to whittle this down.

It might depend from computer to computer, but if you cut quicky after movement vegas will still crash. Maybe technically the video is still playing even though it's stopped playing, but a lag in processing means vegas still crashes. Possibly more of a problem on slower computers, not sure

such a mistake does not happen to me. if the program doesn't play, I can delete everything. i have windows 10 and ok.

Vegas does not crash with this error. but freezes for about 3-5 minutes. then it works again. try to be patient and wait and wait ....... 😂

I have seen that one, but I thought what was happening was that vegas was playing the file internally still and the freeze stops when the play head gets to the end of the timeline. Is it possible your media was 3-5 minutes in length? You could be right though

Norrin_Radd22 wrote on 10/15/2019, 4:57 AM

I have had small clips come back after a short amount of time, but long clips don't seem to come back. Perhaps there is something to that theory of it taking as long as the clip.

So that's something interesting. Is Vegas still forcing the clip to play, but has no idea where it is anymore, or something?
