Crashing ALL the time

michel-plante wrote on 4/22/2024, 4:29 PM

Hi,

Just purchased Vegas Pro Edit 21. I was crashing left and right with that new version, never have I crashed with this new version than any other from version 6 to 20. I contacted Support and after one day they asked I send them a SI text file, which I did. After I received a ton of emails, at least 5, were they were asking me via a survey if I was satisfied with the Support provided. Could not answer since no support has yet been provided after me sending the SI text file.

After consultation someone on this site suggested I use build 208 and not 300. Did that this morning and started to work on a project. I crashed 2 times within my first hour of work and some effects did not work. I did provide info on the window that appears just after a crash as I did a few times when crashing with build 300. Never had any feedback from Support following those emails.

I had problems with version 19 a few years ago after purchase. I bought version 20 but I was getting the nasty sound after every clips on the timeline with no patch in view to correct that issue. So I decided that version 21 would, without a doubt, be just perfect...??? I'm out of means!!!

I'm using Windows 11, 64 bit. Using graphics card G246HYL on AMD Radeon RX 6600 with 16g. of Ram...thanks for help.

@michel-plante We need some more detailed info if anyone is to be able to help you. Start with Sections B & C here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

But first have you checked if your GPU needs updating?

I have so far had 4 different computers since purchasing Vegas (v20 in my case), and every single one of them has the same problem with freezing/crashing.

And Magix want to blame my computers....

It could be your computers if they didn't meet minimum specs or the material you use. But anyway you don't appear to have previously posted with your problems. Do you wish to post more info so others may be able to help you?

Edit: And please create a separate post for your own issues.separate post needed

@michel-plante, when the crash report window with build 208 came up was there anything in show problem details you could paste in here? It might give a clue.

If you could share more info about the media or FX you are using that would also help. Can you add your hardware to your signature here like I did? You're also welcome to test either of the known good sample projects I have here.

Reading other threads it sounds like an update/fix for build 300 will happen before too long. Until then I'd stay with 208.

Hi Roger,

To answer your fist question...this is what I wrote in my Post concerning the crash report: I did provide info on the window that appears just after a crash (with build 208) as I did a few times when crashing with build 300. Never had any feedback from Support following those emails. Just booted my system and I mentioned that a few effects were not working Float & pop was not working yesterday and does now but Double flashdown does not work. I would say that following your question most of them do work and I presume that with time they all will!

Being french speaking I don't know what you mean when talking about adding hardware to my signature?

Thanks for your feedback RogerS

Hi RogerS,

When talking about hardware I did mention my RAM, Graphics card and Windows at the end of my text.

Voilà...hope this helps

Hi EricLNZ,

I think I have a system capable of meeting the requirements of the latest version of Vegas Pro 21.

I have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor and as I mentioned in my post I'm using Windows 11, 64 bit. Also using graphics card G246HYL on AMD Radeon RX 6600 with 16g. of Ram...

Also I used all versions of Vegas Movie Sudio from version 6 to Vegas Pro 21 without any glitches except for 21 right now. Never was happy with 19 and 20 had that nasty sound at the end of clips on the timeline.

Thanks for your feedback Eric

Go into "my profile", and then you can edit there "my signiture.

A lot of use uses that, to post our hardware (have a look to Rogers or my signiture).

More, it would be helpfull to know more about the media you use. You can use the small and free application Mediainfo, to find out more about the footage - and post the Mediainfo printout here. Or you can upload a sample of your footage to a webspace, and post here the link.

General spoken, you find here the information that we need to try to help you:

And sorry, we do not know what you have sent to support.

Thank you, that helps. Both your CPU and GPU are modern and meet all requirements for VEGAS.

Can you give any hints about the crashes? MediaInfo is very useful (instructions: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/ ) is there anything in particular you are doing when it crashes?

Hi Roger,

No news from me for three days, I was out of town. I can give you the info related to the ''B'' item but I'm now having issues with Media Info. Is that an app I can DL on my system or does it work online?.. I'm not to sure how to use it?

Thanks

The first word - in blue - under "1. MEDIAINFO' in the link provided by RogerS is itself a direct link to MediaInfo's download website. It is a quick install on your system - it is not an online app that needs to send your media data online. When using MediaInfo, the View 'text' or 'tree' options provide the best information about the media.

@michel-plante Hi, did you right click on a media file ?

Dexcon wrote on 4/26/2024, 7:33 AM

@michel-plante  ... there are a couple of ways to access MediaInfo:

1. R click on a selected media in Windows Explorer and - in Windows 11 which is what I am using - select "Show more options" and in the context window that opens should be - maybe 5 options down - a MediaInfo link that when clicked on will open MediaInfo's program.

2. Go to Windows Apps and scroll down to 'M' and select MediaInfo which will likewsie open MediaInfo's program, but you will need to select "File - Open" and then drill down to the media file that you want to inspect.

Hope my short video helps explaining about MediaInfo usage.

Besides the technical data, can you explain in general, how this media made? is it :

  • a camera record?
  • cellphone video data?
  • Screen recording?
  • internet grabbed / downloaded media?
  • ...?

Hello Michel and everyone
I would like to add my 2 cents worth, because Michel is using an AMD 5800X CPU - this is the exact same CPU in my system. There are three things I recommend anyone using this CPU, should keep up to date, for best performance.

1. Install latest Chipset Driver, which is currently 6.02.07.2300 (as of 28th April 2024).
2. Install latest BIOS update for your Motherboard
3. Install Ryzen Master - this is optional and not necessary, but very helpful for nerds who like to know what the CPU is doing in real time. It can be used for adjusting clock speeds etc...

Before you install anything that I recommend above Michel, can you please tell me the Make and Model your Motherboard? I would assume your Motherboard is using the X570 Chipset, but need to confirm this first.

If your Motherboard is using the X570 Chipset, here is the link for downloading latest drivers.
https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/chipsets/am4/x570.html
Select version of Windows and download & install AMD Chipset Drivers - ignore other drivers - not needed.

AMD has released many BIOS versions since the 5800X was released. Some of these BIOS updates addressed critical problems with this CPU like "system stuttering", that could cause system instability. I would highly recommend installing the latest BIOS for your Motherboard, however, you need to have confidence when doing this and/or have someone help you if you are not sure. If you screw up installing a BIOS update, it can "brick" your computer. The is just a warning though. Installing a BIOS update is very easy when you now exactly what to do! Once I know which Motherboard you have, I should be able to find a YouTube video that shows what to do.

Optional Ryzen Master download from here:
https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/ryzen-master.html

Hope this helps. Thanks.

Standard AVCHD Media. Should be very easy and light to be read and edit...

Try @Dr Zen's suggestion first. Not sure with AMD drivers... hope other more experienced AMD users can join.
