Credit Roll/Scrolling Credits - font sizes

Caruso wrote on 5/7/2002, 3:29 AM
VideoFactory plugin - during the creation of a credit roll, there seems to be the option on each line of text that one enters to change the properties (font, font size, etc.). I've set the single item font to 20, ok. That size comes back by default each time I select single item as the screen layout for a line of text. Occasionally, I need to change the size, but, unless I'm missing something, it seems that changing the font size for one line of text also affects the font size for all other single item lines.

I must be doing something incorrectly.

Thanks in advance for any replies. I did search this forum on this subject. Found some interesting and useful tips, but no answer to this specific question.

I too have noticed this (in VV3) but assumed that this was the intention. I actually find it quite limited and often have to do multiple credit rolls so that I can have different styles. It appears to me that once you have selected a color, font, and size for one of the three templates (single item for example) - that's it, you're locked into that format. If you change it later, ALL your text in that template will change. I hope I'm missing something.

Ditto. Same behavior here. IMHO, its a design flaw or bug. No question that we should be able to set each line differently.

Actually, the first time I used the effect, I *was* able to set different font sizes on different lines. Later, I made some changes and found that all the lines were changed to the new font size. And now I can no longer duplicate the steps that allowed me to set variable font sizes upon creation. Something seems a little screwy.

In the styles pane you can choose the line style type: Header, Single item, or Dual item. Each of these can have different text properties. Changes to the text properties willl globally change all other lines of the same line type. Maybe this helps a little?

Thanks for the response SonicEPM. Your notes clarify that this is not a bug but I think all previous authors to this thread would agree that this is a serious limitation and frustrating. Only being able to choose from 3 font sizes is very frustrating. For example, if I am happy with the layout of the credit (and font size) but then have to add 1 name that is extremely long then I have to decrease EVERY other font size in that style.

I understand uniformity is a good thing but can't we increase functionality a little?

Actually, I think it would be good if both behaviors could be available . . . the ablility to globally change attributes (which we have now) or the ability to make changes line by line (or let the program assume that we want whatever we type into a template to show up on screen, and, rather than have long entries disappearing off the screen, simply compress that line item automatically to make it fit).

On the whole, however, I am very pleased with this plug-in. I wasn't very fast at creating long lists of scrolling credits in VV prior to the inclusion of this feature, and, in a crunch, would resort to Pinnacle's Title Dieko, a good ap, but one that messes up my VV setup whenever I load it up.

Thanks for the replies.

I agree that it would be much more useful if you could have more than 3 fonts and sizes. IMO the best would be if we could add more styles to the list of 3 pre-defined styles. But it would be nice to be able to overrule the style settings as well..
Another feature I'd love to see is the ability to insert a new line between 2 present lines. Or is this already possible? If yes - how?

Check out this thread:
'credit rolls...Help please.'

It was initiated on 3/21/02. Basically, if you use keyboard commands to do your copying/pasting, (Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V respectively), the adivce on this thread states that the plug-in will allow you to insert a new line. I haven't tried it, but wish I had come across the adivce sooner.

I guess to use it, you'd add whatever you need to insert at the end of your credits, then, Ctrl+C to copy it, scroll up to your desired insertion point and Ctrl+V to insert it and move all that follows down one line.

If you try it, post back and confirm that its works.

Thanks.

I am having a problem with using the credit roll and changing text size too. I did what was suggested with the different style types: header or single and it was screwy. It would do some lines and not others. then one line became a header and I couldn't make it a single. so I had to make the header font size the same as the single style. very frustrating....all I can do to make any contrast is do ALL CAPS for some of my headers. any suggestions? thanks
