Crossfade problem in Vegas Pro 15

michael-felhendler wrote on 12/6/2017, 8:43 PM

Hi all!

I upgraded from Vegas Pro 14 to Vegas Pro 15 (Ver. 1.3.41.37) three weeks ago (11.17.2017).

In version 15 crossfades between different portions of one and the same active take (e.g. "C001") doesn't behave properly. In the preview window the picture freezes and single frames are shown occasionally during the whole crossfade transition. After the crossfade has passed everything goes back to normal (takes a few seconds though). Crossfades between different active takes (e.g. "C001" and "C002") runs smoothly. In version 14 crossafades between one and the same active take have always run smoothly. The phenomenon remains even at the poorest preview resolution.

I run the software in OS Win 10 Pro (16299.64); Intel Skylake Core i7-6700K 4.00GHz; 32GB RAM; GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. I've also verified the same behaviour on another, less powerful PC unit, also running on Win 10 Pro.

There are video clips showing what hapens, see uploaded clips above! A support ticket was filed along with the video clips almost 3 weeks ago but I've had no response so far. [Ticket#2017111917000177]

To me the problem seems to be software related. Perhaps some reading instruction has been changed, in comparison to version 14, leading to conflicts when reading from one and the same file.

I'm in the music business and often have long lasting takes on band performances etc. Using different portions of one and the same take shouldn't be a problem and has never been in ver. 14. In the current state I can't work in version 15.

Anyone else that has experienced the same thing?

I hope for immediate attention to resolve this problem.

Best Regards,
Michael

Thanks for a detailed description of the problem. This is a user forum and the video clips that you mentioned aren't available here unless you upload to a cloud drive and post the link

or upload to this forum.

Thank you very much for your reply! I wasn't aware of the possibility to upload files. The clips are now uploaded!

What's the format of your media? How was it created and which decoder is Vegas using to read it? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

If it's AVC being read by so4compoundplug.dll then try disabling it.

Make sure you're updated to build 261.

Hi Nick and thank you for your quick reply!

I record in XAVC S HD using a Sony HDR-CX900E handycam.

Following your link it turned out that so4compoundplug.dll was active (TRUE). I have now set it to "FALSE" and it resolved the problem!!! Thank you very much!! 😊

My VP15 Suite is version 1.3.41.37. I've downloaded build 261 by following your link. File information says 1.0.0.65 which confuses me. Is this a newer version anyway? It's also a much bigger file (438 MB ) than the VP15 Suite program I received when I upgraded (4,5 MB). Should I launch the downloaded build 261 program?

I'll look out for future comments about new updates and will then try to enable the new decoder again. Anyway, do you think the XAVC-S issue will be resolved in the near future?

Best Regards,
Michael

This post explains the difference between the big installation file and the small "download manager" file, and provides links: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-where-can-i-download-vegas-pro-and-other-vegas-software--104782/

If you grab the build 261 installer, you can just install over the top of whatever VP15 version you're using.

In build 261, a few formats such as some GoPro and DJI AVC formats have been made to bypass so4compoundplug and use the older compoundplug decoder. Unfortunately that leaves XAVC-S as the most significant format that performs worse in so4compoundplug than compoundplug. See this comment for a previous report. I hope they resolve it soon. In the meantime, just disable so4compoungplug, but note you'll not have the new support that it provides (e.g. support for Panasonic GH5 and recent iPhones).

Thanks for the feedback, this is a known issue and we're looking at fixing in a future update. Until then if you're doing crossfades using the same media, Nick's work around is the preferred solution.

Thanks Nick, build 261 is now up and running! Your helpful links, detailed explanations and thoroughly mapping of information really brings a lot of "Hope" to this community!! 😊

@Dee Has this been fixed yet?

The So4Coumpoundplug supports from XAVC-S files from build 361.
