Cut out background from clip

pangiaxiong wrote on 6/20/2023, 12:32 AM

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right spot to ask this question but I want to know if there is a easier way to cut out the background from a clip showing a figure walking. The only way I know is using the mask but that will take a while.

If anyone know any other ways, please can you help me out? Thanks

@pangiaxiong - Boris MOCHA Pro or Erazr.

Easy? Not CURRENTLY with the tools CURRENTLY bundled with VEGAS, but with just a little bit of patience... Perhaps? ;)

If you need it right now, you can buy the Mocha plugin for VEGAS, which does a great job of this. There's also Smart Mask, in VEGAS 20, but it is still in beta and can only do one frame at a time.

@pangiaxiong - Can you post a Still frame and we could get a better idea.

With the built-in capabilities of Vegas Pro/Effects as others have said you are mostly looking at manual rotoscoping, depending on the nature of the source clip. Add-in such as Mocha Pro can help a lot.

Alternatively, there are external 3rd party AI tools, such as Runway (which has a free trial available), that you could try.

@Former user It's fast and easy to use, but has no options, just ON or OFF, it's social media quality. I chose this clip at random and it did a reasonable job, but plenty of times it does the zoom meeting flashing at the boundaries and not very useful

@pangiaxiong Any route you take is a time consuming process in getting decent results.

Former user wrote on 6/20/2023, 9:14 AM

@Former user Yeah the social media apps have limited if any controls, but the face tracking for the AR Emojis is surprisingly good for mimicking speech/mouth movements, winking, sticking tongue out.. & that example in your vid is still pretty good, I took a still from your vid, Vegas Smart mask still has a bit of work ahead of it compared

CURRENTLY ;) The future is bright.

It wasn't easy but I took a shot at trying to isolate 1 person from a group of 4 using the tracking capability of the Smart Mask FX in vp20 with limited success... see this earlier post:
