During rendering, CPU almost 100% (97% of this is Vegas); GPU is zero

Vegas Pro 19: When rendering with even the simplest effects applied, my CPU is almost always pegged at 100%, with Vegas accounting for 97% of this. No other process is adding to the CPU load. GPU is pegged at zero. I've checked that my GPU driver is up to date. My template is Magix AVC/AAC MP4. As I have liquid cooling, can I assume I'm not overheating the CPU?

Many effects, especially the older ones, were developed years befor multithreading and GPU acceleration technology was a thing. If you'll list the exact effects, provide your system and MediaInfo, someone can help you verifty.

Sounds like CPU encoding where you would hope for 100% CPU use, and that becomes the performance bottleneck slowing everything else down, including your GPU FX. Encode Magix AVC NVENC

NVENC encoding checked at template?

i7-7700HQ (mobile) user here- if no CPU-intensive Fx are used and a GPU-enabled template (QSV or NVENC is used) your GPU will show signficant activity and CPU won't be at 100%.

Thank you for all your help, and my apologies.  The solution to the CPU/GPU problem was obvious, but I kept missing it until you made me look.

Recently I had to reenter all my custom Vegas settings, and somehow managed to click the template without NVENC.  When I went to the Render screen, I never even glanced at the template settings.  When I realized my error and chose NVENC, the result was, of course, dramatic: Without NVENC, a single clip with multiple effects drove the CPU up to 100%, and didn’t use any GPU (0%).  When rendering the same clip with NVENC (same effects) the maximum CPU load was 67%, and the GPU stayed around 21%.  And the time was 16 seconds, not 56.

Thank you for pointing out what should have been obvious to me, but wasn’t.
