Actually, My Documents is a very special folder and I found it out "the hard way". I always thought that System Restore would never delete your data files. Then I had to restore and all of my work was gone! Apparently this is only true if they are under... you guessed it... "My Documents"! If you store your data files anywhere else on the drive and do a system restore, Windows will remove you data or revert it back to what it was at the restore point!!! Luckily I had a backup but now I understand why it's important to store all of your data in the My Documents folder so that system restore doesn't touch it.

That still doesn't make my documents a good thing. It just means that system restore is a bad thing, or at least not as good as it should be.

It means that System Restore doesn't restore just the system, hence, badly named. In fact, it fools people all the time, which makes it LESS than worthless. It is, in fact, a negative in many cases. Simple backups are much better for most.

Actually, you can change the location that My Documents points to to any drive and folder you wish. For example, mine just points to the root of my data drive, D:\ .

Just do a properties on the desktop icon. The default is to store it in C:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents.

Bob.

Having used a photo editing app that ALWAYS defaulted to My Documents, regardess of what you set up, which was extremely annoying, I wholeheartedly BUMP with you. Go V7c!

This enhancement has already been implemented. Recent versions of Vegas Pro remember the last "Open", "Save As" and "Render As" locations.
