Error -59. There is no license to use this software.

Hi everyone,

I have reached out to support about this issue, but their solutions haven’t worked thus far, so I’m hoping for more suggestions.

I keep getting "Error -59. An error occurred starting VEGAS Pro. There is no license to use this software." I’m using VEGAS Pro 14, which I bought in August 2017, and I’ve had no issues until recently. This problem started after I reinstalled Windows, keeping only personal files.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

- Uninstalling and reinstalling VEGAS Pro 14

- Running as administrator

- Following the troubleshooting guide for Error -59

- Manually deleting the "installation.ini" file

- Deactivating from current machine under "My Products" - "Show More Details"

System info:

- OS: Windows 10.0.19045 Build 19045

- Type: x64-based PC

- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090

- Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X (16 cores, 32 logical processors)

- RAM: 64GB

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The following is from Vegas' Support webpage:

If you haven't already tried this, give it a shot. Note that it suggests reinstalling using the installer from My Products in your MAGIX My Account.

Hi Dexcon. Thank you for the reply! I did try that; sorry it wouldn't let me link in the OG post but that's what I meant by "Following the troubleshooting guide for Error -59."

Here are two other suggestions:

1. Reset Vegas Pro back to its default (factory) settings:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

... and see if that clears up the activation/registration process.

2. If that doesn't work, try the nuclear option of doing a clean (complete) uninstall of Vegas Pro:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/

This involves editing the registry so be very careful because there is no Undo (Ctrl-Z) in the registry should a mistake occur. Also, note that there are different folder names for Vegas Pro 19 and above and for Vegas Pro 18 and earlier.

I suspect that keeping personal files when reinstalling Windows has left a gremlin in the registry or elsewhere and that gremlin is causing Vegas Pro that to identify a license problem despite your having de-activated earlier activations in your MAGIX My Account. Personally, I have backups of documents etc on an external HDD so that when I need to do a Windows reinstall, the Windows installation can be done as a fresh install which includes a reformat of the drive, and then the backup files copy/pasted to the fresh Windows install along with a fresh install of all the other programs.

Thank you Dexcon! I wish the first suggestion worked, but I can't get that prompt to show no matter what. Only the -59 error comes up when I do this.

Looks like we're going nuclear, I'll enlist the help of my brother who knows way more about PC's than I do, lol.

I appreciate your responses and explanations!
