It would be really helpful to have an option to expand/zoom the audio waveform image (increasing the visual size of the waveform without actually turning up the volume) - most pro audio DAWs have this feature. It's great if you have a really quiet track, especially great for syncing bits of audio that are quiet, etc.
Answered: Feature does already exist: Shift + Up Arrow
Work around: normalize the quiet event and reduce the track volume or with a volume envelope. Otherwise, the entire audio track can expanded vertically as well
Sound Forge has a waveform zoom option, it would be nice if VP had it as well.
@rraud Sure - and your workaround is often the method I use, but if the quiet event has loud parts also (which is often the case for me), normalizing it actually brings down the volume. Then I have do deal with splitting the audio up if I want normalizing to bring up the quiet parts. Plus, sometimes it's just nice to be able to get a better look at the waveform without having to expand that track so much that I lose all of the other tracks off the screen. As you said, I still think it would be a nice feature to have, even if there are workarounds, and I would use it pretty often.
Now I'm confused:
My Sound Forge Pro 14 does nothing with 'Shift+Mouse wheel'.
'Ctrl+Mouse wheel' zoom the waveform.
The 'Shift+ Mouse wheel' is not an option in Vegas. Use Shift+ up / down arrows.
You 'may' be able to create an another type of keyboard shortcut using "Edit> Editing tool> Zoom"
