Font keeps changing to "Microsoft Sans Serif" whenever editing

Riko wrote on 3/1/2023, 1:53 PM

Using Vegas titles & text, I'm trying to add interesting subtitles to my video. There might be a better way to do it, but my process is:

  • Create the Vegas titles and text event
  • Type out what I want
  • Select all of the text and change the font to my desired font
  • Copy and paste the text event to the next part of my video, choosing "create a new copy of the source media" so that it retains my previous text's settings
  • Delete the previous subtitle text so I can begin typing in the new subtitles

And this is where the font automatically changes back to Microsoft Sans Serif, without fail. Even if I keep the previous text and try adding on to it, it automatically changes back to Sans Serif.

This makes adding subtitles to videos with lots of spoken commentary/dialogue much more of a chore than it should be.
Any fixes out there that my Googling skills just weren't able to catch? Please let me know, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you selecting all by highlighting the text? Or by doing a CTRL-A? Obviously your original one still has a spot of the original font left and by highlighting the text and then typing, you're hitting that original font

Thank you for the response!
Whether I highlight the text with my mouse, or use CTRL-A to do it, the result is the same -- the text reverts back to Microsoft Sans Serif when I begin typing.
Same thing happens if I change the font of a text, un-highlight everything and just begin typing normally directly proceeding the changed-font-text.

@Riko - No, that shouldn't be happening. Historically, VP has had issues with FONT selection and application, this is not quite the same, but it is relying upon your command to keep the format is misbehaving. Could be that your .DOT Net frame working needs to be updated? Failing that may be a Reset for VP?

Thanks for responding.
I don't appear to have .DOT Net Framework installed on my PC, unless that is installed automatically along with Vegas?
As for resetting Vegas Pro, I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and still, the issue persists.

@Riko
Reinstalling will not reset your personal settings - you will also need to clear the cache.

Thank you. I followed these instructions and alas, the issue persists.
I guess at this point I'm surprised that no one else has had this issue.

Did you also delete the cache during the reset? That is "gladly" overlooked.

Did the test and followed your instructions exactly.
The font remains as desired even after deleting.

You didn't tell us which text tool you use - I used "Title and Text" - which text tool do you use?

@walter-i. Riko mentions Vegas Title and Text in his first post.

@Riko Have you tried creating a Preset with your required font and using that?

I tested in Titles and Text and was not able to duplicate. I did a CTRL-A, changed the font and size. I then highlighted all the text multiple times and started typing. Always got the new font and size.

Thanks for all of the help everyone.

As it turns out, the font I was trying to use was the issue. UD Digi Kyokasho NP-B -- a Japanese font.

All the other normal fonts work correctly, even custom fonts. It seems as though only non-English fonts are the source of the problem.

@Riko
Anyway, thanks for coming back to clear that up!

We should have asked (or you should have told us...) what font you wanted to switch to - then we would have figured it out sooner.

Please mark the thread as "resolved" .
