Formats with intermediate codecs when working MP4's in Vegas 15.

Hi. Greetings from México and sorry for my basic English. 😄

The thing is:

I have a Vegas 15 project in which I am working with .MOV files.

The output format of my final render will be MAGIX AVC / AAC MP4 (previously called mainconcept).

I want to add FX's to a video event and then render that video event to a new track without loss of quality (compression) through, so that when I do my final render there is no double compression or recompression.

In this case I can't do a smart render, because the final render format will be MAGIX AVC / AAC MP4 format, so it's imposible.

I have read that there are formats that work with intermediate codecs which serve so that there is no such aggressive compression at the time of rendering. "Lossless codecs".

These are the formats that match the properties of my files and the configuration of my current project:

Is there one of the formats indicated that serves as an intermediary? I read that the ProRes and the XAVC Intra could work. I would like to read more opinions. I've also seen that you can download "third-party" codecs and use them in Vegas. Is there any codec that you recommends me and WORKS WITH ANY OF THE FORMATS INDICATED IN THE IMAGE?

Thank you :D

One good one that's always there is Sony YUV in an AVI wrapper. Bring lots of disk space.

Many people use MagicYUV, also.

Both will be lossless until the final render to your delivery codec.

Thank you, but as you can see in my image, the "Video for windows (*avi)" option it's not available because it doesn't match with my project and source file properties. Is that a problem?

Strike the “Customize” button and make the various parameters match your media or project settings. Live dangerously. The most you have to lose is your time.

DESELECT MATCH MEDIA.

But that does not affect the render quality ?

If you match the pixel dimensions, pixel aspect ratio, interlace/progressive setting and frame rate, there will be zero difference btween your preview and the Sony YUV rendered output file.

For me the Lagharith Lossless Codec is just perfect. Fast rendering without loss of quality. The generated file has an acceptable size and its reproduction in the timeline is very smooth. Scopes show that there is no loss of quality even when rendering files with FX effects.

In Render As / Output format check the Match Project Settings option to see which templates correspond to your source project. This option is just right for this and Vegas will show the correct models that matches your project.

You have to understand the following: The basic rule for correct rendering is that the output properties must be the same as the project properties. If they are different the analysis of the render will be very complicated because Vegas will work much more to transform A into B instead of transforming A into A.

oscarleethr25: You have to untick 'Match media' and create your own template that is matched (frame size, frame rate) to your media first. Then you can tick the 'Match media' again to reduce the list.

It is quite slow (https://www.magicyuv.com/, scroll down to comparison). In addition, when I used it I found that I should always set levels in Vegas Pro manually with Lagarith so one day I switched from it.

It might be OK for you. However, you may try UT video (that is also free and faster then Lagarith as it is not very outdated so better supported by modern hardware) or MagicYUV (that is much faster for the same reason but not free. It's cheap, anyway)

I had forgotten that Sony YUV files are actually lossless. Bear in mind that they are 2-3 times larger in file size than MagicYUV RGB files.
