Can you add a word about what ffprobe is and where it might be found?

It's in the "bin" subfolder of the zip file, along with the other 2 exe files.

e.g. ffmpeg-3.2.4-win64-static.zip\ffmpeg-3.2.4-win64-static\bin

I don't know what it does.

It's basically the same as mediainfo but without graphical interface.

There is also a mediainfo CLI which outputs more or less the same information as ffprobe.

OrangeNZ wrote on 4/26/2017, 4:30 PM

Hi OrangeNZ, ffprobe is included in the "static" ffmpeg download and resides in the "bin" folder, so really nothing to do if you have already added say ... X:\ffmpeg\bin to your path variable, if ffmpeg runs, ffprobe will also run. Where X: is any drive letter.

I only added X:\ffmpeg as that is where the exe files ended up. Ok, so extra line of instructions to copy and paste ffprobe to the ffmpeg folder

I wonder if rewrapping would also improve the behaviour of the 6kphoto video stream. Example video file https://goo.gl/CP1jIt

6kphoto mode is compressed in hevc right?

If so, the mxf container most probably don't support it, and bmx tools used for wrapping definitely don't.

EDIT: confirmed that it's not working with your sample file.

GJeffrey wrote on 4/27/2017, 6:53 AM

There was an error during the last rewrapping on some files. it was due to bad compilation of bmx tools (Thanks to bmx developper who pointed that out).

So I upload a new version with 32bits bmx tools (link in my original post). Everything should be fine now. Let me now if there is any problems.

Thanks for that GJeffrey ... I'll update and notify accordingly.

You mean here 😉?

Indeed, well, I did ask if it was ok😀

I just updated the zip and linked to your post here, as previously.

Thanks for your ongoing attention to this, makes a huge difference.

I managed to generate the .mxf files using ffmpeg as specified in GJeffrey's post, but when I try to open or load the .mxf files in Vegas it gives a message,

"None of the files dropped on Vegas Pro could be opened."

I want to be sure if perhaps the version of Vegas I am running is either too old or if there is something I am missing to be able to open/edit these as there are obviously other users of Vegas on here that are able to use them.

I am presently running Vegas Pro 12.0 (Build 367) 64-bit on Windows 10.

Any and all help is appreciated.

GJeffrey wrote on 5/7/2017, 4:58 PM

Your Vegas version is most probably too old to support long gop AVC in mxf container (not 100% sure, I don't have V12 installed). Would you mind sharing a short video file you converted to confirm whether the problem lies in V12 or not?

Those kind of files can be opened by Vegas 13 and 14.

Not sure what I am doing wrong, I followed the steps to the letter, I get this error: "*" is not recognized as an internal or external command (where "*" goes for all the files downloaded, ffmpeg, ffprobe, bmx etc). Maybe I didn't set the path variables correctly? I also tried with all files in C:ffmpeg folder as described, and also adding as a new variable. I am on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated!

GJeffrey wrote on 5/21/2017, 4:26 PM

Use system variable instead of user one.

It should work.

bkbokeh wrote on 5/22/2017, 12:51 AM

Thanks GJeffrey! The re-wrap worked, files play in Edius (downloaded a trial) but don't work in Resolve. Can see the first frame of each clip, then it stutters and shows a video frame here and there but mostly shows the red "media offline" frame. Would be great to color grade the native files in resolve..still waiting for DR14 to come out of beta.Transcoding seems to not work either, (AME, FFMPEG, Edius, and a few others) playback is horrible for some reason.

Industrystandard wrote on 6/1/2017, 8:47 PM

Magix please make these codecs native to Vegas Pro 14, so users won't have to waste extra time doing this workaround. Especially for cameras like the Panasonic GH5 and JVC -GYLS300, which now does 4K 4:2:2 as well as HD 4:2:2. This feature will make Vegas more reliable and efficient, thank you.

I have no problems editing GH5 10bit 422 footage in DR 14b3 - in Vegas though, all I get as the video part is green frames throughout each clip :(

To give complete information, 10bits 422 mp4 footage can only be read by DR Studio version, not the free one. And 12.5 doesn't support those files at all, at least on Windows.

megabit wrote on 6/4/2017, 12:08 AM

True. And I'd like to add my lengthy debating over which should become a B-cam for my FS7 (A7Rii or GH5) has ended with buying both :) And I can tell you the GH5 - in spite of different color science etc. - intercuts with my FS7 much better (using ACEScc in DR). The A7Rii is going to be used as stills camera mainly, unless I have a need for 3-camera shooting. Not that the A7Rii cannot produce images with high enough IQ - far from that; it's just that its S-log2 looks "thin" and noisier that GH5's V-log...

I've followed the directions to the letter but when I double click the cmd to convert, a black box just pops up and disappears right away. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

Also my FBmn software plugins for Vegas aren't working, I remember seeing something about the in the Path value before I changed it to c:/ffmpeg.

GJeffrey wrote on 6/16/2017, 11:53 PM

I guess you weren't.

Some suggestions :

- Are you sure you have avc 422 10bits files in the same folder as the cmd file.

- Try to copy and paste all the necessary exe files to the same folder as the cmd file and video files.if it works, meaning that you messed up with your environment system variable.

Panasonic GH5 10-bit 422 footage now opens correctly in VP15 build 177.

Kinvermark wrote on 8/28/2017, 12:47 PM

Great! Perhaps that fact is something to bookmark somewhere obvious. Magix marketing surely should add that to the list of new features.

So only Vegas Pro 15 not 14 is able to natively play 10 bit 422 files? Will this work natively for Panasonic EVA1 10 bit 422 files and JVC GYLS300 8 bit 422 files? Also what about RED code raw files?

Correct.

I think so.

Also what about RED code raw files?

I don't know but there was improved support for RED in build 311.

@Industrystandard It's best to download the free 30-day trial to check all of these. Don't take my word for it.

Here native 10bit 422 EVA1 footage works great with VP15 b311.
