Ha, I should learn to read readme files more carefully!

So yes, the installer has worked and the command is where it should be. I've customized my toolbar to put it up with my other "special" commands (Gearshift, Render As, Split all tracks) and on a quick test it's working fine and the alpha-numeric sorting is working.

Thanks very much Gilles, this is going to be a great productivity tool for my big projects. Now i can locate events quickly based on their directory location and file name, which is how I organize my archive of marine life species. Wonderful!

Leslie,
The installer create this folder (C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\My documents\Vegas Application Extensions)
Otherwise, you need to create it when you make a manual install.

Don’t you find the Custom Command in Vegas > View > Extensions, after running the installer ?

just for the record, what's the difference between the extensions in View as opposed to Tools? "GoTo" is View, not tools.

There is no difference. This is just my choice.
I felt it was better placed in View menu.

hi rosebud,

thanks for the time.... used your installer and yes, it did exactly as stated, created folder in c:\docs.. etc., however, v8b didn't pick it up, hence my dropping it in scripts, where it not only shows up, but performs as expected.

what other 'thing' would i likely find under extensions?

how can i tell vegas where to go? (no, i'm NOT coonass)

leslie

!!!! just tried installing again - and now i have it as a command. my doc's folder is on a second drive (c: just has system and progs, ultra quick for backing up with acronis), so i think i might have done as direct5ed in an earlier post, and so scrwed up - but that wouldn't be the first time.

again, many thanks for a really useful extension....

Now, all we need ( noooo, maybe not all ) is an Extension Menu in which we can set ALL the file folder allocations for a particular project. And if anybody comes back at me saying : "Well, I just put everything in the same project folder? Don't you?" Well . .. NO . . no I .. don't!

I have many small and experimental projects needed swapsies and addies and tweakies and scratchies and "let's see's . . . and so on. I want a MENU FOLDER ALLOCATION extension - y'hear me??? PLEASE!!!

A] Project Folder

B] Graphics Folder

C] Audio Folder

D] Capture Folder

E] Temp ... well maybe not . .

F] MY GRAPHICS EDITOR!!!

G] Misc . . . yeah well, you come up with another.

Maybe an option to SET what and where.

There is a HUGE difference between an "Extension" and the older "Scripts".

With the scripts, under Tools - Scripting, you get where you need to be and the stop, go to Tools - Scripting, pick the script (or however you start it - could be from the toolbar), do what needs done with the script, and then return to editing. Your workflow stops as you use the script.

With the Extensions, they're just always there waiting for you - the View - Extensions in particular as they create a dockable window. With it you can keep the script window open and just bounce back and forth between it and the timeline. You don't have to stop and "open the script".

Having said that, there's actually THREE types of Extensions/Custom Commands. One is found under View - Extensions which is what the above referenced. However, there is also a Tools - Extensions and an Edit - Extensions. So you can use the proper location depending on what the tool does. For example, Auto save is a Tools - Extensions while the tool referenced above and Project Inspector are examples of a View - Extensions.

GoTo command line? Is it easy to add this?

I don’t think it is very difficult to add this feature.
I add your request to my list (Command & CD Track Regions).

New version available.
Please read first post.

Excellent! - Now . . .here's the thing:

When we edit in Vegas we have, potentially many tracks being used AND at any one time many Events UNDER the cursor. It would be real neat if one could:

1] Have a similar GRID that you have created BUT only display those Events under the Cursor AT THAT TIME!

. . . sop that we could then ..

2] Pick-off those Events to be selected.

. . yeah . . and that's what the Events Selection tool is for .. But that will SCRUB all those under the cursor. Using your tool one could be more selective and out of scrub sequence - yeah?

Only a thought?

Again, love the new GoTo options

Grazie

O-M-G! Go To Region and PLAY!!! - How neat is that then?

I've not done much work with regions, but at present am doing an advert with a "few" regions within it. This is allowing me a neat GRID way of organising and previewing them at a distance without mucking with the Timeline.

THANKS GILLES!!!

Grazie
