green screen for a few seconds

AsuDragon wrote on 8/20/2024, 11:11 PM

My preview screen goes from a perfect video image to a green screen for a few seconds before returning to normal.

There's no solution on the Internet, except for videos that are completely green, which is not my case. This bug only lasts a few seconds, several times in the same video.

Please don't respond with mere assumptions, I want a real solution, not techniques that will destroy my Vegas app.

I've already tried uninstalling and installing the app, but no solution.

And the green images are clearly visible on YouTube

Vegas 22.0 first version

my computer is powerful enough to run games like Hogwarts Legacy smoothly.

It's a decoding problem. Is the footage AVC or HEVC? (Screenshot looks like AVC but is it all the same?) Depending on the footage, enable legacy AVC or experimental HEVC in preferences, file io should help.

Can you share details about the problem footage? Is it in a MXF container? Did you do the capture in OBS or a different application?

What a way to make an entrance looking for help with your first ever post.

Funny, the comment "don't respond with mere assumptions". That is all that we can give you since you failed to give any real specific information, and only vague generalities, leaving those that might help with nothing but assumptions.

We have not clue on your computer specs, outside of making an assumption that it can play a video game. This a video editing forum, not a gaming forum.

If you really want help, read this POST and answer "B" and "C" in your reply.

@AsuDragon That is a decoding issue with that specific file, or it is corrupted.

But, you have not provided any specific info for us to provide you with further solid solutions..... And that "Please don't respond with" statement that you made,no, that's not how you communicate here. Humility goes a long way.

@RogerS

Yes, the images are in AVC
I captured with obs 30.2.3
No I don't have an MXF container

RogerS wrote on 8/22/2024, 7:47 PM

Can you try advanced settings in OBS? AVC with AAC in a MP4 container is fine. Limit the GOP (keyframe) length to your framerate (30).

In VEGAS use 8-bit full mode instead of 32-bit video.

UltraVista wrote on 8/22/2024, 9:15 PM

before you change any settings, can you record using OBS, confirm you get the green in Vegas and upload it to a file sharing site?

There's been many cases of people getting green screen lately, your case looks interesting, as you're using basic MP4, not hybrid or fragmented mp4, you shouldn't been seeing green.

AsuDragon wrote on 8/23/2024, 1:42 AM

@UltraVista The green screen is not only visible on vegas after rendering, but also on the video after downloading and on youtube.

Only the mp4 recording and streming version is clean.

AsuDragon wrote on 8/23/2024, 1:47 AM

@RogerS Vegas 32-bit video is a new modification I made 7 days ago the green screen problem occurred about 3 weeks ago, just before I did the Vegas 22.0 update.

I'll follow your advice on obs and let you know if anything changes.

RogerS wrote on 8/23/2024, 1:52 AM

If you can make a short recording available of a capture that has this problem we can test it. In general OBS recorded with reasonable settings works well in VEGAS.

Regarding 32-bit video it should have no connection to green screens but introduces other problems, like lower performance and if the footage is full range you won't be outputting legal video levels (16-235) without manually using a levels Fx in VEGAS. 8-bit full avoids these issues.

AsuDragon wrote on 8/23/2024, 1:56 AM

@RogerS I'll send you a recording as soon as I'm in the editing session but it won't be until tomorrow morning, I'll apply your advice 8bits vegas and advanced settings obs, thank you.

Well, I always use Adobe Media Encoder to deal with AVC and XAVC mp4 files, and those random green screens always happen. My temporary solution?  - I close Vegas and open again, then that green screen on that specifically location does not appear anymore. But it's a random and annoying bug.

@Thiago_Sase yes it is random and lasts a few seconds and there are several per video and they are never in the same place when you restart the editing software.

@RogerS Sure. Thank you. Here's the link;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yGGqM_ZG8Tsh_rjBT5DNmxMrVSgSZ_29/view?usp=sharing

But, keep in mind that this behavior does not have a pattern to happen. It's totally random, it happens out of nowhere. It's hard to catch it, if you're only testing with a single file. Furthermore, it could happen with 5 minutes editing or 5 hours.

I always edit projects that contain many clips, between 200 and 400 clips. And the green screen happens randomly among them, sometimes when doing crossfades, cuts, trim or sometimes just moving the clip.

Sometimes while you are editing a project like that, none green screen happens during one or two hours, but sometimes the green screen bug happens out of the blue ("without being invited", Lol).

RogerS wrote on 8/23/2024, 8:39 AM

Thanks Thiago. So far I'm not able to trigger a green screen on my laptop- I'm usually pretty good at that with a combination of fades, stepping backwards, etc.

@RogerS It's a post-conversion with Adobe Media Encoder.

When I use the original one straight from the camera there are random Laggy and stutters. But when using a converted one from Adobe Media Encoder everything is perfectly smooth. That's why I convert.

And both have the green screen behavior.

I added the original one in the link as well.

Thank you.

I got one with the converted file- it took a bunch of fades and skipping around the timeline to show up.

File io set to defaults; NVDEC (GTX 1050 mobile) doing the decoding.

@RogerS Yes, me too. Vegas Pro 22 has increased very well the speed. I can edit faster. I'm also using GPU acceleration set on with my RTX 3060. The final render is 2x times faster than it was on version 21.

AsuDragon wrote on 8/24/2024, 9:45 AM

@RogerS have you found a solution, because the problem persists on my side?

Thiago_Sase wrote on 8/24/2024, 9:50 AM

@AsuDragon There is no solution for now. We hope that in the next update this will be fixed. By now, it's something that we need to live with.

RogerS wrote on 8/24/2024, 9:53 AM

@AsuDragon There isn't a solution but perhaps a workaround as I wrote above.

Depending on the footage, enable legacy AVC or experimental HEVC in preferences, file io should help.

For critical work I still use VP 21.208 as it doesn't have issues like this. I am sure it will be fixed at some point with VP 22.

joshua-noesser wrote on 9/23/2024, 3:54 PM

Same Issue here with VP22. On VP21.208 no problems at all.
