Have video but no audio.

I'm trying to bring in a file made in Sony MS 10 on an older computer. It plays on my new computer with no problem but when I try and bring it into Vegas Movie studio 17 Platinum, I get video but no sound. Properties show video and audio in the file. And it's an mpg file.

When I make an mpg file (Mpeg-1) in my MS10HD it shows and played normal in VMS Pl 17 latest build.
Which build do you use and what is the MediaInfo of that mpg that you use?

@Robert-Walden If your mpg files contain AC3 audio then it's a known problem and there are several threads about it. Here's one

@j-v I suspect your files have MPEG audio, not AC3?

Yess, but afiak also mpeg2 and m2t mpeg files cannot normal be rendered in VMS 10 with AC3 audio.

Maybe it is too long ago I used MS 10, but I cannot remember a rendertemplate that makes Mpeg-PS files.
Maybe you can help me than I can test again.

Program stream rendering was always included in the MainConcept (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2)) render templates but it had never been muxed together with AC-3 (but MPEG audio for the program stream). Or vice versa the output of MPEG video muxed together with AC-3 audio never has been possible in Movie Studio nor Vegas Pro (but separated transport streams only if it needed to be AC-3).

So this file with the properties shown above cannot have been made with Movie Studio (or Vegas Pro).

Marco, I have no idea what that means. If it plays on my new computer I have to think the video and audio are in the file. As it is an mpg file why will both audio and video open in version 10?

As previously stated VMS currently has a problem playing AC3 audio in a mpg or vob file. You will only get the video. There are threads on this but I don't have time to go searching right now.The problem doesn't occur in version 10.

Mention of HOS in that thread only applies to Vegas Pro, not VMS. So the current situation for VMS users is that transcoding is the recommended work around.

Used MS14 instead of 10 and no problems.
