How can I edit mp4 files with Vegas?

trekz wrote on 3/10/2017, 5:12 PM

I can import it, but it won't even let me load the mp4 file onto the timeline. I've changed the folder name to " compoundplug.disabled " but it still doesn't work, so I renamed it back. I also downloaded quicktime player as recommended, but that didn't work. What's the best method? The file is an h.265 mp4 file btw.

Edit: All my other files work perfectly fine. It seems like DJI did something with the mp4 on their latest firmware update. The .mov file still works with vegas.

As far as I know, Vegas does not (yet) support h.265. So, if you want to use it in Vegas, you need to convert it to h.264 or another format Vegas supports.

One of the new features in Vegas Pro 14 is "Support for reading and writing HEVC/H265 files", so why does your Vegas 14 not read your files?
Can you provide us with the MediaInfo properties of your H265 mp4 files?

*How come it doesn't show h.265/h.264 on mediainfo?

trekz wrote on 3/10/2017, 8:29 PM

I just updated the firmware on my dji phantom 4 pro, and it seems like that might be the problem since they updated the dlog range. All my other files and other sample files off the internet load perfectly fine. If that is the case, can you please help me pinpoint the reason as to why the "updated" file is incompatible?

Here's a youtube video showing:

1) The video plays fine

2) It doesn't drag and drop

3) It has to be imported through the menu, and it doesn't load onto the timeline

4) My other video loads perfectly fine

.mov files work fine, but handbrake doesn't recognize it now. I'm starting to not like this firmware update...

Edit: Handbrake ended up working....

a sample file was added to the first post for anyone interested. It's only about 5 seconds and 80mb.

Your sample file won't load in my VPro 14 either.
I don't know the reason. My DJI files (FHD H264 50p) load without problems.
MediaInfo from that one

Couldn't get SAMPLE.h.265.MP4 to open in Vegas 12 or Windows Media Player. VLC would open the file to the first frame but would not play.

NickHope wrote on 3/11/2017, 3:28 AM

DJI are using the wrong codec ID in the file header. It should not be "avc1" because that is H.264 not H.265. Previous case here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/cannot-open-h-265-videos-in-vegas-pro-14--104822/ Please inform DJI!

There are workarounds in that thread. Remux with ffmpeg, change the header with Hex Editor, or shoot .MOV in the future.

I've changed the folder name to " compoundplug.disabled " ...

H.265 files are decoded by mxhevcplug.dll, not compoundplug.dll.

HEVC is H.265.

The original samplefile would not load into Vegas Pro 14, but played without problem in all my players.

I converted the file with Handbrake into HEVC (X.265)

and now it playes fine in Vegas Pro 14

thank you all for even attempting it. At least .mov still works. I'm thinking this has something to do with their latest update with the dlog settings.

The previous case I linked to was from 9th December.
