How to add points to the composite level envelope?

How do you add points to the composite level envelope of a track in Vegas 13? I have read that I ought to be able just to double-click on envelopes to add points to them, but this isn't working for me.

Works here in V13. First right-click in the properties area for the desired track and hover over Insert/Remove Envelope. Then tick on Composite Level so there is a check mark. The composite envelope line will appear at the top of the video track. Then double-click anywhere on the envelope line and a point (box) will appear.

You should also be able to right-click on the envelope line to see an envelope options menu pop up.

Note to self (everyone else please look away -- the note that follows is a reminder for mine eyes only): Figure out a clever, kick-booty signature that suggests I'm completely aware of how to properly and exhaustively party on and that I, in fact, engage in said act on a frequent and spontaneous basis. All joking aside, listing my computer's properties is a futile endeavor. I edit multimedia in a local television station newsroom that has Vegas Pro installed on several machines with widely varied specs. We began editing non-linearly with Pinnacle Studio Version 8. That didn't last long before we upgraded to Vegas Video Version 4, then to Vegas Pro 10.

Thanks for your replies, but neither of these methods is working for me. I have tried closing and restarting Vegas, but that has not change anything. I can see the envelopes in the two clips I have on the track I want to work with. When I mouseover one of them, a pop-up tells me the opacity, and I can drag the envelopes up and down with the mouse. But when I double-click on it, nothing happens. And when I right-click on it, I get no contextual menu.

Are you able to take screenshots - or even better - a screencapture of your workflow?

It sounds to me like you are dragging the event opacity instead of actually adding a composite envelope. Each event has an opacity that you can drag down from the top but they aren't actually envelopes - it's just a master opacity for the event.

Thank you everyone. Yes, I was just changing the event opacity. I have now discovered "Show envelopes" (ctrl-shift-E) in the view menu, which has made the envelopes visible.
