How to do an automatic overlap of clips AFTER they're on timeline?

Len Kaufman wrote on 3/26/2017, 12:51 PM

I'm working on a video that has at least 75 clips. I would like the clips to have a short overlap transition. Vegas has a function in preferences that allows you create that effect: "automatically overlap multiple selected media when added." It sound like, from the description, that this will only happen at the time of adding clips to the timeline. I already have the clips on the timeline. I tried checking the box in preferences anyway, and nothing appears to have happened.

Is there a way to do that at this point, other than by manually going in and pulling the clips together, one at a time?

You want scripts

A script may help, but if this is video, you might also need to pull some scenes forward to make the dissolves work better. I don't think any script will do this.

I think the answer is here, on this very site.

Guess I was asking the question wrong, when I did my initial search. I will try the solution as posted by InterceptPoint," when my computer finishes rendering a test version of this project.

If you're running Sony Vegas Pro v8 through v13, the free Vegas Extension Timeline Tools can do this with a couple mouse clicks. If you're running Magix Vegas Pro it will not run extensions designed for earlier versions of Vegas. This short video shows ho to use Timeline Tools to layout events on the timeline to create a slideshow project.

Thank you for all of the above work, Peter_P, and also for responding to me directly, in answer to my query.
