Indeed, Handbrake does also do the job. Personally I prefer Shutter Encoder because besides doing this job, Shutter Encoder can do also dozens other video jobs.
@GRAHAM-FLEMING Hi, there'll be an option in your iPhone that allows you turn HEVC off, your phone will then create AVC files. it'll still be a variable frame rate just like the HEVC ones but should play in your VP,. (I think in iPhones there's a Dolby setting that can cause problems.)
MP4 HEVC & MP4 AVC are essentially the same to anyone who doesn't scrutinise their footage & you prob won't notice any difference in quality etc,
HEVC & AVC are compression techniques to reduce the video information so it can be saved on the SD card, but HEVC is the newer version designed for the now bigger 4k+ & therefore bigger file size that phones/cameras create nowadays , there's more to it than this - like it helps with streaming etc. but Google HEVC vs AVC to know more accurate facts.
But basically AVC is the old way & all editors etc, are set up to use that without problems, HEVC is new, it's a bit more intensive on the PC & some older software isn't set up to use it..
