Improvements For Next Updates (This is not a New Feature Request)

iEmby wrote on 4/5/2024, 10:39 PM

IMPROVEMENTS CAN BE:

  • Composition Modes Should Be Change With Hover Mouse And Scroll

  • Compositing Mode can be applied on single track or single event (unlike if i applied Multiply on any track then all below will get affected)
  • Media Generator animation should be saved as presets. it can be done even now but we can't find presets to re-applying.
  • Separate Button Should Be Added In Customizing Toolbar Box

  • Double Click To Reset Zoom on Preview Windows
  • Layouts, Toolbar, Shortcuts, FX Packages Should be in Import / Export Preference Tool.
  • An Option of Pinning Any Track at the Top. Like A Master Adjustment layer. so that when we add a new track it automatically comes below that pinned track.
  • Add Solid Color From Right Click (Because it is most usable)
  • Selected Track should be Highlighted.
  • Adjustment Layer Should have a different identity from video & audio track's design to get recognized fast.
  • Track Can be locked fully.
  • When Sync Cursor option while key animation is ON, then a signal should keep triggered to remind user of its ON state. like Auto Ripple update comes.

  • Saving Pan & Crop Presets With Keyframes.
  • Key Animation styles like smooth, fast, slow should be managed by Bezier Curves to get more customization animations. and it should be in all effects and PAN & CROP especially.

ADDITIONS CAN BE:

  • Search Bar (For Desktop) can be added a empty space on Preview window. which can search whole desktop for only video, audio or veg files. to drag and drop.

  • Action History can be seen (or we can go at any action if possible like in Photoshop)

IMPROVEMENTS CAN BE:

  • Composition Modes Should Be Change With Hover Mouse And Scroll

Is it to quickly check the effect of each mode on the current project? Good advice.

  • Compositing Mode can be applied on single track(unlike if i applied Multiply on any track then all below will get affected)

The current Vegas has allowed you to do this. Just use the parent-child track to limit it.
This is one of the advantages of Vegas over Adobe Pr AE.

  • or single event

The development difficulty of this improvement is absolutely comparable to the development of adjustment events.
It took more than two years from my proposal for adjustment event and demonstrating its importance, to Vegas Team's completion. Therefore, I don't think the event-level blend mode will be completed hopefully in the next few years.
First of all, you need to make the decision makers of Vegas Team realize its importance and priority.

  • Media Generator animation should be saved as presets. it can be done even now but we can't find presets to re-applying.

I agree, but I don't think this will be a high priority for Vegas Team's to-do list.

  • Separate Button Should Be Added In Customizing Toolbar Box

Pretty small things will not arouse their minds.

  • Double Click To Reset Zoom on Preview Windows

I have made similar suggestions, including that middle-key dragging preview is unpractical. But these didn't attract their attention. So I took a workaround: using Xmouse to enable Ctrl+Drag and Ctrl+DoubleClick.

  • Layouts, Toolbar, Shortcuts, Should be in Import / Export Preference Tool.

Agree. There are also custom settings for the hamburger menu, project media, and so on.

FX Packages

It can be exported using Sony Preset Manager 2.0 at present.

I can't feel much change brought by these in my workflow .

  • Track Can be locked fully.

Agree.

  • When Sync Cursor option while key animation is ON, then a signal should keep triggered to remind user of its ON state. like Auto Ripple update comes.

My suggestion/feature request is that Pan/Crop's key frame function should not be enabled directly by default. Just like DXT and OFX plug-ins

  • Saving Pan & Crop Presets With Keyframes.
  • Key Animation styles like smooth, fast, slow should be managed by Bezier Curves to get more customization animations. and it should be in all effects and PAN & CROP especially.

Agreed. But I believe that in the eyes of Vegas decision makers, Pan/Crop has been replaced by OFX such as PIP, Crop, Offset&Wrap, and they will not waste more resources for Pan/Crop.

ADDITIONS CAN BE:

  • Search Bar (For Desktop) can be added a empty space on Preview window. which can search whole desktop for only video, audio or veg files. to drag and drop.

I can't feel much change brought by these in my workflow .

  • Action History can be seen (or we can go at any action if possible like in Photoshop)

Good advice, but I doubt how much PC resources it needs.

Keep in mind, it isn't so much that the vegas developers won't care about implementing certain changes suggested as the post above implies, it's that they have a lot of very time-consuming improvements they are working on, like the video engine rewrite, and they have to carefully prioritize their resources to make sure they aren't building a bunch of small features on a foundation that is unable to support them properly.

But UNFORTUNATELY, pan/crop still cannot be replaced by PiP, as PiP works with the project resolution and P/C with the media resolution. 😔

@m3lquixd Just put it on the left of Pan/Crop.

I once suggested to the team that a PIP should be added on the left of Pan/Crop by default for each timeline event.

@lan-mLMC No, even the left continues the same thing. PiP always works with the resolution of the project. Unfortunately.

I really wanted Magix to reformulate PiP to work with the same media resolution, at least if glued to the left, that would be something. Not even putting it in MEDIA FX does it work with media resolution, it's incredible lol

I once suggested to the team that a PIP should be added on the left of Pan/Crop by default for each timeline event.

@lan-mLMC Actually, putting PIP (or other fx) before Pan/Crop can be a fatal operation for an image file, for Vegas doesn't seem to think that image files have length in the sense of time, which means you can't even keyframe it...

Probably not, it's more like a bug, and I'll pass it on to the developers.

@m3lquixd I now prove that PIP will use media resolution in Pan/Crop.

Footage: 4096x2304

Project: 1280x720

PIP Magnification Times: 20

When PIP is on the right of Pan/Crop:

When PIP is on the left of Pan/Crop:

We can see that when PIP is on the right side of Pan/Crop, it uses the project resolution, so it is blurer.

We can see that when the PIP is on the left of the Pan/Crop, it uses the media resolution, so it is clearer.

Putting it on the left, yes, it improves considerably. But the image resolution is not the same.

A curious case, the example I gave above, the image is extremely large, but with a smaller image, what we expected would be a better result, curiously ended up being worse.

@lan-mLMC @m3lquixd Hi, I don't know if this is any way related but just out of curiousity I added a 1000x1000 pic on a UHD project, added PinP, I see no loss in quality when put left or right of P/C even when zoomed in to 7.8. What I don't understand is why right of the P/C it shows full screen but left of P/C it only shows the media size 🤔🤷‍♂️

I hope to add the composition mode as a drag effect like in premiere that can be used with a click on a single effect and not creating new tracks.

m3lquixd wrote on 4/6/2024, 4:37 PM

@Yelandkeil Exactly, PiP has this problem because as the name suggests, it is meant to reduce media and not increase it, but we need something to work with enlarged media, as pan/crop does not give the freedom to animate keyframes separately from each parameter

lan-mLMC wrote on 4/7/2024, 12:22 AM

@m3lquixd I can reproduce the problem you raised. The PIP on the left side of Pan/Crop is clearer than that on the right side, but it is still more blurred than the single Pan/Crop.

Not only PIP, but also BCC DVE, NewBlue PIP, etc. Even if these FX are located on the left side of Pan/Crop or on MediaFX, the real media resolution cannot be obtained.

So the problem is Vegas itself, not these OFX. Theoretically, the priority of MediaFX and FX on the left of Pan/Crop is higher than that of Pan/Crop itself, which is the closest processing procedure to media files, so they should be able to access the media resolution.

But it didn't. I tend to think that this is a bug and I will try to report it to some engineers.

How did you manage to not lose quality? because here i lost lol

This is because his project resolution is 3840x2160. The quality loss is not obvious at this project resolution.

I added a 1000x1000 pic on a UHD project, added PinP, I see no loss in quality when put left or right of P/C even when zoomed in to 7.8.

@Former user This is because your project resolution is higher than your media resolution. You won't see any quality loss in the experiment under this condition. You should experiment under the condition that the resolution of the project is lower than the resolution of the media.

What I don't understand is why right of the P/C it shows full screen but left of P/C it only shows the media size 🤔🤷‍♂️

@Former user You should right-click in Pan/Crop to match the output, not use the script.

Former user wrote on 4/7/2024, 4:29 AM

@lan-mLMC I considered that so played with several different images, still don't see any noticeable loss in quality.

This one is bigger

I have 2 scripts that do similar things,

This one does the same as right-click in Pan/Crop to match the output, it fills the preview window.

This one does similar which I prefer because it doesn't crop the image.

I'll use either of these depending on what I want. In the video I used the second because for this test I didn't think it would be appropriate to be 'cropping' the image.

iEmby wrote on 6/6/2024, 4:04 PM

Pan & Crop can be controlled from preview window if possible. Same like crop OFX can.

I rather suspect that this is an issue caused by using a font without a genuine italics or bold face available on the system.

Under such circumstances, Windows can fake bold and italics, which is often good enough (e.g Office apps do it all the time) - and that's what is happening in the text window. But in the preview window (and in the render) Vegas have chosen not to allow such faux fonts.
