Clicking on internal video preview full screen in vegas time line, in my laptop, video from the time line goes to full screen but playng flashes a lot and is unstable. i haven't ever experienced this problem before, with any version of Vegas since 13TH to today.

I use: Vegas 22 pro suite licensed - my vegas project 1080p 25 fps Progressive - Laptop lenovo, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
resolution of the desktop 1920 x 1080 60 Hz. GPU: Intel(R)Iris(R)Xe Graphics - VRAM 128G - Ram shared 8091MB

i attach a link to a short video showing the problem using video preview full screen in Vegas 22 pro:

@Francesco-Castellani Please continue here (you can reply below) and do not create any more new posts on the same issue.

Elsewhere you stated your GPU is a NVIDIA MX350 + integrated Intel Xe.

What if you go to options/preferences/video in VEGAS and change the GPU from the NVIDIA MX350 to the Intel Iris Xe? I suspect the NVIDIA only having 2GB of VRAM is causing problems in VEGAS, though VEGAS may also have a bug and not be tested with it.

I assume your GPU drivers are recent; if not consider updating them on the Intel and NVIDIA websites.

Does the flicker happen even when playing back .jpegs in your project, not just video?

Francesco-Castellani wrote on 1/11/2025, 3:34 AM

Thanks a lot for the attention, and sorry about my wrong way to use the posts... checking my preferences in vegas, the GPU selected is yet Intel Iris Xe...ram available 8gb... the problem exists also with a jpg in time line, with every still frame and and with every format of video preview in play or still (best/half/draft). I upload 2 screen shots of my preferences in Vegas 22.

Thank you for sharing these details and no problem about the posts.

It seems that VEGAS doesn't try to use the NVIDIA GPU, which is good.

If you go to Windows, device manager and then display adapters can you share your driver version? Here's what mine looks like:

There is an easier way to make a screenshot. If you press the print screen (prtscn) key it should save one. Or press the Windows key + shift + s and then you can make a screenshot.

Can you try to turn off the GPU acceleration temporarily and see if it stops flashing? Where it says IrisXe under preferences/ file io, click it and change it to off.

Francesco-Castellani wrote on 1/11/2025, 9:17 AM

Unfortunately turning off the GPU acceleration never changes...

about the device manager, i can't understan why in my device manager does'nt appear display adapter, even clicking on show hidden etc etc...

Thanks for testing.

You have display adapters- it's near the bottom "schede video".

If your driver is old you can try to get a new one from the manufacturer of your computer (check their website) or directly from Intel here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html

thank to you for everything. my drivers are (in the opinion of my windos update) very recently updated. The mistery (about full screen video preview) remains the same... have a nice day. many regards

@Francesco-Castellani That might be the problem. Intel & Microsoft warn laptop users to revert to manufacturer-supplied drivers if there's trouble after a more generic graphics driver update. You can try and roll it back in the Windows device manager if the update was recent and the button is not greyed-out like on my Zenbook:

Otherwise you'll have to reinstall a graphics driver from Lenovo support specifically designed for your model of laptop.

Francesco-Castellani wrote on 1/13/2025, 12:22 PM

I tried as you suggest, , but in my devices manager, isn't allowed to select the roll back function (see it in the frame uploaded)

I'd suggest contacting VEGAS official support as I don't know anything else you can try to fix the flashing other than different GPU driver versions. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/options/

What he is experiencing is the flashing when he goes full screen preview playback (Video Preview on external monitor) on the laptop.

@Francesco-Castellani Did you solve this issue? I'm experiencing the same on my home studio PC. The regular preview works fine but when I switch to full screen, the video starts and keeps flickering.

I noticed I also get the flickering when not playing a video or viewing a static image, but then the flickering stops after a couple of seconds.

I tried changing several video (preview) settings but can't find what's the issue.

My setup: Intel(R) N97 2.00 GHz, 16,0 GB, integrated Intel UHD graphics, Windows 11, Vegas Pro 22 build 239.

I had the same problem with flashing full screen preview. It started since Windows (11) was updated. I uninstalled the latest update, I think it was KB5050009. And that solved the problem for now but I have paused Windows update and really don´t know what to do next.

@Mats thanks. I have Win 11 Pro, but still on 23H2 fully up to date, and no issues with flashing when displaying full screen with my computer. I have a 2 monitor set up, so I unplugged the second monitor, played back a clip full screen on the main monitor, and no flashing.

I checked my main PC (running the same Vegas Pro 22 build 239) and the full screen preview works fine, no flickering. Setup:

AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX with Radeon Graphics, 32GB
Win 11 Home 24H2 (26100.2894), last update KB5051987

vs flickering:
Intel(R) N97 2.00 GHz, 16,0 GB, integrated Intel UHD graphics
Win 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.3194), last update KB5051987

So mostly likely it is a Windows 11 / screen driver issue(?)

@Mats Are you running Win 11 Home or Pro? It is interesting rolling back update KB5050009 solved the issue. I could try that but it does not seem a good idea to me as there are 2 other updates after it and I have no clue which (security?) issues were solved in them.

Mats wrote on 2/13/2025, 1:10 PM

@ericBcreator I have Win 11 Home. I haven´t got so much more time to investigate this flicker issue. I´m glad it works at the moment. By the way, I am on Vegas Pro 21, build 314.

ericBcreator wrote on 2/15/2025, 11:33 AM

As a workaround, I created a new 'Windows layout' which only shows the preview window and hides the other ones.
It isn't a full screen preview but it's as close as it gets without flickering and you can switch back and forth with a keyboard shortcut.

Mats wrote on 3/2/2025, 12:46 PM

Today there was a new Windows 11 update. And now the flickering from preview window has gone. (Unfortunately I did not write down the name of the update. But I know that that one is not in the Windows update history for some reason.)

ericBcreator wrote on 3/4/2025, 10:10 AM

I just updated my PC and unfortunately it's still flickering.

Mats wrote on 3/5/2025, 3:53 AM

For me it seems that the Windows update KB5052093 causes the problem. It was installed once again today and I got the flickering. After uninstalling that update the flicker is gone.
