Is it safe to upgrade Quicktime now?

I have long kept my old version of QT, 7.6.2 (515), because of all issues with newer versions and incompatibility with Sony Vegas. I always decline the updates popping up.

Now since Magix stepped in and gave us Vegas Pro 14, which at the moment in my machine seems rock solid, is it safe to upgrade QT now or is it still best to keep the old?

By the way, I had given up on NB Titler 3 Express that came with Vegas 14. It never worked and didn't have enough tweeking features. But in a recent job I did I was actually able to get good use of it making some quick titles and lower thirds. I am happy the customer didn't ask for any changes in colors etc in them as it wouldn't have been possible to do in NB 3 Express. Anyway, a few of the presets were usable as they were. :)

Cheers

Quicktime 7.7.9 has been working fine for me. I would update. I suggest you avoid the player because of security vulnerability rumours. Set .mov files to be played by something else such as VLC by default. I can't remember the details but if you have a chance to set MIME types etc. during or after the installation then disable them all or set them all to something other than Quicktime.

I've been grappling with this subject in connection with another software program I use and have found this thread revealing:

I used to have problems bringing in iPhone video footage on the timeline. The footage would end up solid green or crash Vegas. But that some time ago. The solution then was to roll back to the old QT version.

Now Vegas 14 has a different QT support, right? Or is it the same as in Vegas 13? Will iPhone footage play?

I have 4 samples from various iPhones and they all play about the same in VP13 and VP14 using the Quicktime codec. They don't play smoothly. They should perform better in both versions if you convert them to MP4: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-convert-mov-video-e-g-iphone-to-mp4-for-vegas-pro--106154/
