Is NewBlue Titler Pro 7 worth it?

andyrpsmith wrote on 12/7/2023, 7:53 AM

NewBlue Titler Pro 7 is bundled with the latest V21 Edit upgrade for £149. I have Titler Pro 4 which is OK, nothing great really.

The upgrade price is nothing special either, it was the same price last August and over the past months has remained similar with various other bundles. Just thought I would ask your views.

If it's free with V21, why not? Try and find out if it's a cut down version as I can't believe it would be the full Pro version. I used TP7 for a number of years, but my preferred titler now is BorisFX Title Studio which much more powerful than TP7. The only thing TP7 has that TS hasn't is multi-title management.

I believe it is the full version as Magix claim it's value is 299 (On NewBlue site it is 295 Pro version.)

As I have version 4 I wonder what version 7 gives in addition.

@andyrpsmith, that's a really personal question. Some people can't live without it. Some people never use it. Then there are other people like me.

It does a really good job at quickly creating interesting titles and I've used it many times with the built-in templates to quickly create an interesting title. However, if I just need some plain text on the screen, I tend to use Titles and Text.

So, yes, I do think it's worth it. But, I don't use it in ALL cases. Titler Pro 7 will have several additional features over Titler Pro 4 but there's very little difference in "how it works" between the two versions.

It will be the full (Basic) version. i.e. not all of the templates are included that the "Ultimate" version will include.

@andyrpsmith Will TP4 play the video on the TP timeline, my TP7 doesn't.

& when using TS can you easily grab the spline points? I find it almost impossible to grab them, if I zoom in it helps but then you have to zoom out again to see what you're doing?

@Former user Even though under the view tab I choose NLE I have never managed to get the video to display, I have to view the timeline to see the effect.

Maybe I should try the trial version.

@andyrpsmith Although I like Boris TS it plays slow on the TS timeline, moving keyframes is jerky, I struggle to use the controls, the mouse slider <-> that pops up on the number boxes is a bit hard to control with the mouse, I end up typing in the numbers & the on-screen splines are almost impossible to manipulate, back in VP it's slow & Dynamic RAM takes ages to create, it just feels like dated software,

Despite the lack of playback in TP7 (previously I've only had TP6, i think, that I hardly used) it plays better, the controls do as asked, the on-screen controls are easy to use & back in VP it plays a lot better.

This of course is on my PC, others might find TS easier or get better playback 🤷‍♂️

@Former user Will TP4 play the video on the TP timeline, my TP7 doesn't. Currently no, but if you scrub the timeline it will show.

The only thing TP7 has that TS hasn't is multi-title management

What do you mean by that?
Multi-title management is when you can have multiple titles and choose the ones that you can change many parameters when you change one. If I remember right it's called sharing. You can flag individual titles in the TP7 title list and declare them as shared. I did many tutorials on TP7 so if you're interested, my channel name is Veteran Video Editor. Some aspects may have changed but the fundamentals are there.

when using TS can you easily grab the spline points? I find it almost impossible to grab them, if I zoom in it helps but then you have to zoom out again to see what you're doing?
When you hover over a spline point the spline boundary will turn yellow, when it's yellow you can move the spline point.

I struggle to use the controls, the mouse slider <-> that pops up on the number boxes is a bit hard to control with the mouse,
If you hold down the Alt key while moving the mouse you get finer control.

I downloaded TP 7 and installed it. The NewBlue application manager told me that TP 7 doesn't allow trials and needs a licence, however it loads up within V21 in place of TP 4, and still does not show the NLE as background video in title designer. It has also changed the style templates I was using within TP 4. I think I will uninstall it.

@Jack S Thanks 👍, I get you now, I've just been playing with TS, I had 3 titles coming in from the left, I wanted to change one setting but had to go into each title & change them individually (copy n pasted) . I keep opening it because I do want it to work right but after a very short while I get frustrated & close it,

@Jack S Yep I'm aware of those things, in my video you can't really see it but I'm only grabbing the points when the line is yellow, yellow or not I can't grab them. I've had TS 4yrs now & I've tried many times, still no joy.

Jack S wrote on 12/7/2023, 10:59 AM

@Former user I've done many tutorials on TS. I regard it as far superior to TP7. The intro and titles in my later tutorials were created with TS.
Regarding spline points, I forgot to add that when the boundary turns yellow, clicking on the spline point turns the point red. At this point you can move it.

I have a few NewBlue FX products in my Vegas versions dating back a few years, and find if it works then leave it alone as newer versions don't always work better.

Just found out how to get the video to appear in the title designer window, it must be added as an FX effect not as a media generator. So learnt something today.

I'm still on 6, which I bought at some point. I used a few of the numerous templates over the years, but rather rarely. Most are typical broadcast ( sports, news etc) type designs or corporate and rarely ever fit what I need. I mainly use it now for basic things that vegas titler can't do ( but actually should IMO), like chosing different colors for each line or even letter / word, or I'd use a template and keep just a couple of the graphics or just the original animation.
I still find it rather counter intuitive and a bit tedious to work with, it also has some issues (on my system at least) like occasionally rendering stuff in low rez because the cache wasn't properly saved.

Please be aware of two things. 1) to show the "background" video, it must be used as an effect. 2) It currently will not "play" on the timeline but will scrub.

Yes, it will see any templates installed in TP4.

@Jack S I find it interesting how you prefer BFX Title Studio. I have seen others say they think it's 'dated'. I have it but haven't used it much but my Titler Pro has stopped working properly now making it useless to me sadly (as I find it useful for quickly creating nice looking titles and utilizing the transitions my version came with. I now am having to try and learn Title Studio which in many ways seems more powerful but also more difficult to get going with and, from what I can see it doesn't have transitions which I would like to use. Anyhow, I will try and get going with it while also wishing I could get Titler Pro working again.
