Jumped from VP19 to V23

Finally jumped from VP19 to VP23 .. Got a new rig so thought it would be best to go with VP23 on Windows 11. Had some issues, all of which turned out to be the NVidia GPU (RTX 5080). Since I stepped down to the Intel(R) Graphics, running solid. It's a damn shame since that NVidia card is super-fast. I'll have to wait for new drivers, I guess. Meanwhile, even slow on his new rig is fast enough for me.

Hi @xberk can you say what issues you had? The one I'm aware of is that 10-bit 422 media doesn't open with a 50XX card installed (VEGAS has yet to add that decoding functionality) so you have to drop back to Intel QSV which works well.

For drivers I'm staying on 581.57 studio for now with my 5070 though the latest is supposed to work in 23 (with 19 you can't render to NVENC with the latest 590.xx version).

Everything I'm doing is 8 bit. If I use the 5080 card, I get a reliable crash if I use the explorer window. If I avoid the explorer window I still get random crashes using the project media tab. So far, I have no problems using the Intel Graphics.

@xberk what driver version are you using? What are you doing when you get a crash?

I'm on VEGAS Pro 23 with an nVidia 5070 card and all is working fine with nVidia set as the GPU and using the nVidia renderers. I did go ahead and update the system to 591 but am not rendering in the older versions of VEGAS.

Driver version: 576.88 .. When it crashed only option was task manager -- end task. No crashes now. Only thing I changed was the GPU setting to Intel QSV.

I just render out a project that is .H264 4.2.2 10 bit L-GOP from Panasonic camera in VP23 with RTX 5080, No issue at all. I had used NVidia 581.57 and latest 591.44. Neither one of this driver giving me issue. The project rendered out in .H265 10 bit 4.2.0 NVenc for my preference pick.

Possible solution here. Thanks Bruce. I downloaded 591.44 and updated. That went smoothly and I immediately started using the Nvidia 5080 GPU. So far, so good. No crashes in Explorer window. I'll update later today as I continue to work at full speed now. Thanks Bruce!!!

Bruce that's likely as VEGAS is using Intel QSV as a fallback for decoding, check task manager.

I'm still on 581.57 due to 590.xx breaking NVENC with all older versions of VEGAS. Glad to hear it's stable, though.

Nope.... I set Vegas to use RTX 5080. During playback and or rendering GPU accelerated on RTX 5080. In task manager Intel Graphic show zero % activity. I have no problem with any of these .H264/265 10 bit 4.2.2 came out of my Panasonic and Canon cameras.

Here a corrrection. I must have got confused about h265 10 bit 4.2.2. This format is working great in Davinci Resolve but not in Vegas Pro. In Vegas, .h265 10 bit 4.2.2 is not working at at all and I don't want bother to try the Intel IGPU which it can decode 10 bit 4.2.2. .

All is well with RTX 5080. Amazing what a difference the right driver does. I like working with the explorer tab. I've been using it since Vegas 6 when I first used Vegas.

Hi Bruce, thanks for the correction. I just tested it again with my 5070 and with 10-bit 422 files get a black screen in VEGAS. I changed it to QSV and... now get a green screen with build 356; pretty sure that used to work.

These are my settings.

RogerS wrote on 12/25/2025, 7:47 PM

Actually looking back at my notes it's been like this with 22/23 from when I got the 5070 in September. Oddly I do see activity for Intel QSV decoding, just nothing on the screen!

I got similar green previews with 422hevc using the 581.57 driver with Nividia 5080 selected as gpu in video prefs. Machine is a mobile Ultra9 275hx w/5080 & Intel igpu with vp23 and 22 installed. However it worked if I checked the experimental-hevc box in i/o and selected Intel decoder. Lots of decoding on Intel but very poor performance. Also worked if I set decoder to off but even slower. Another possibility that worked was selecting Intel in video prefs and setting i/o to auto, which was slowest of all. 420hvec works like a charm with all combos of settings, performing best with vp23 default 5080/auto.
