Just purchased Vegas Pro 15 and want to install to D drive in Windows

Hello All,

So I haven't upgraded Vegas since it was owned by Sony. In fact for a long time I was content with version 8.x of Vegas Pro. But when I saw the latest deal and generally positive reviews I figured it was time to jump back in. Now I fear I've wasted my money.

Is there anyway to install the software to my D drive rather than my C drive? I want to keep as much room as possible free on my C drive and adding a gig or more of new data isn't ideal.

I saw something about an old version not being "officially supported" if not installed on the C drive but it made it seem like it was still possible to install elsewhere. Was hoping someone would know how before I download all the data to proceed with the install.

Just curious: where have you seen these generally positive reviews? :)

Cannot you choose the drive during installation? (sorry, I do not remember it as I prefer to set up programs on their default locations as quite a lot of programs does not behave well is they installed somewhere else).

Anyway, even if the installer does not allow you to choose installation folder, you can manually move it to any location you line and create junction (google for "NTFS junction" for more details):

I saw the positive reviews at Amazon when I checked for "Vegas 15 Pro". Of the two 1-star reviews one was someone who claims to have downloaded it over http and I guess claiming it got stolen/hacked, and the other was about phone support hours, neither was a major issue to me.

The installer wants to download all the files first which it does not offer a location choice, I assume it is the C dive.. I'm not sure if it offers an option after the files download or if the install starts automatically.

Thanks for the info about moving the files after the fact.

So it turns out the majority of apps do allow you to change the install folder after all once the files have all been downloaded.

If you're worried about "adding a gig or more of new data" to your boot disk, you don't need Vegas Pro 15. Though, I've installed applications on various drives over my lifetime, the last time I did it was when a 470 MB hard drive was a big deal.

Leave the applications and the O/S on the same partition. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

Thanks for the warning. I did a very quick video using some basic filters and fx, it was short but it worked well and seemed to render much faster than the old version. Need to do more testing tomorrow but so far so good.

The Vegas installer leaves large installer files in your Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager folder, which by default is on your C drive, so you may want to delete those or move them to another drive after the installation is complete. I also uninstall Magix Connect.

Thanks! Yes they were there, moved them. Appreciate it. When I first got this PC I remember changing the location of the Documents folder in Windows to the D drive but it seems to have switched back at some point.
