He all,
I've recently started learning to use Premiere Pro as I just can't work in Vegas any more due to the laggy preview window. It was ok when I was editing old 8mm camcorder footage but I've started shooting digital in 1080p and even on the lowest setting it's just so choppy it's unusable.
Thing is I LOVE Vegas pro. It's similar to Cubase in the way it works and so far I've found Premiere to be quite fiddly and not as speed oriented as Vegas. In fact the only advantage I've seen thus far is that Premiere plays my 1080p clips smoothly in the preview window at a decent resolution but I'm afraid that takes priority over anything else.
WIth that if Premiere plays them fine then it's not my computer at fault so I'm unsure as to why Vegas has this incredibly annoying flaw. I've tried everything including the lowest preview setting, a RAM flush, using uncompressed footage, setting Vegas to highest priority in Task Manager and allocating the correctly calculated dynamic RAM.
I have a GPU (an older one granted) although Vegas doesn't seem to see it as I can't select it from the video preference menu and I'm unsure what to do next.
I thought I'd come on here and see if there's maybe something I missed before I have to make the complete switch as if I'm honest I'm not keen on Premiere and I'd hate to give up on Vegas but unfortunately I have to go with what's usable.
Thank you!
