License & activation in case of HD re-formatting

Roberto65 wrote on 11/2/2018, 9:57 AM

Hello,

I wish to know what should I do in terms of product license & activation if I need to re-format my HD where Windows 10 and the SW (Vegas Pro, SoundForge, Acid) are stored.

Because something happened on my PC and now it is way too slow, so I shall go trough a full clean re-install, Windows 10 included.

Shall I do anything special online, like de-activating teh license and then register it again after I have re-installed Windows 10 ?

Or can I just format the HD, re-install Windows, and afterwards re-install the SW products ?

Thanks

Regards

As far as I know you don't need to do anything special in advance of your re-format, other than making sure you have a record of all your serial numbers/activation codes. You will need to activate everything after you have installed it again. If any activations don't work you can get into your Magix account to sort it out (see FAQ #9).

Thanks Nick.
In another thread I also have an open question about Boris plug-ins in bundle with VP 15 vs. possibility to have them still working in VP 16.
If you have some time to inspect this... :-)
Thanks

Do yourself a favor. Find a system imaging program that suits your fancy and your budget.

Aomei Software

Macrium Software

When you have a bare-metal Windows installation finished, save an image of your system (boot disk).

When you have the major applications that you use installed and licensed, save an image of your system (boot disk).

Stop doing this mind-numbing stuff that you should only do once per the life of the hardware.

Hi John,

thanks for the advise.

Actually I can tell you that it is the 1st time in my life something like this happens: usually I take enough care to not spoil everything so easily but this time it was something totally out of my control.
Anyway, now it's too late and I have no option but re-formatting and re-installing.Not such a huge issue because I have all the set up and serial numbers saved in an external HD.
Just a bit time consuming...

This works.  Saves a ton of time if you have a HD failure or 'bad' Windows update.  Just make a new image from time to time and delete images that are past there sell by date.

Thanks.
I will take care once everything is re-installed. Btw, the whole mess was caused by AVG Tune Up which started a HD defrag (which for the life of me I did not launch, so i still wonder how could it start...). It completely spoiled the HD so that now an external HD connected via USB 2.0 is faster than the internal one! :-|
