Lut imports Not working....same Lut works in V16.....

D7K wrote on 8/9/2019, 11:14 AM

Title says it all. I export luts from Photoshop as Cube. Works in 16 but not 17. Anyone else having this is (Panasonic 4K video on the time line with proxy). Windows 10 PRO, i7700 4200 ghz 32 gig ram AMD RX480 8 gig. Made sure "by pass FX" is not selected. Tried all 4 types of luts from photoshop, none work (but only cube worked in 16).

Could you share such a non-working LUT?

D7K wrote on 8/9/2019, 12:18 PM

Sure.

View file

I tried all the PS falvors on 16 and Cube is the one that works. File is 256 MB, click on the "open with" in the top panel not in the center of the page to get to download.

I can repro the issue. In VP17 it neither works via the LUT FX nor via the Color Grade Panel. But it works in VP16 and causes kind of a bluish x-ray fx.

LUTs I created from Affinity Photo work fine in VP17, though.

I will report as bug. It'd be good if you could leave the file on that dropbox account for several days next week so the developers could have access to it.

will do, and yes it was a blush x-ray thingy:)

Got a slightly different LUT question... is it possible somehow to set a group of clips to the same LUT? Someone mentioned clip folders and being able to attach the lut to the folder instead of all the individual clips but I can't find that feature. I usually do my color adjustments by track but luts don't seem to work in track fx.

Marco. wrote on 8/10/2019, 3:21 AM

@Howard-Vigorita
This depends on which way you add the LUT. If you use the LUT FX (not the new Color Grade Panel) you can add the LUT on any places known in Vegas Pro: Media FX, Event FX, Track FX, Parent Track FX, Video Output FX.

Thanks, I'll give a try to making the LUT with a clip using the Color Grade panel and exporting the LUT before converting camera tracks to a multicam track. Then later loading it on the camera track as an FX LUT after expanding the multicam track. I think I tried that once before with VP16 and the free OFX 3D-LUT Plugin but it didn't work during fades. Fingers crossed.

I think this was a bug of earlier VP16 builds but this seems to work fine with VP17 and the current build of VP16.

Yes, just tried it again with VP 16 build 424 and it works fine now. Also noticed that the new LUT FX also shows up in VP16 if VP17 is installed. Sweet.

@D7K
Could you try using this LUT?

Does this one work in VP17 and is it close enough to the grading of your LUT linked above? Then maybe there are workarounds.

Former user wrote on 8/12/2019, 6:16 PM

@Marco. FWIW just dropped into media fx in VP17, works fine, or maybe its not supposed to look like that?

Marco. wrote on 8/12/2019, 7:43 PM

Thanks, JN_ for re-testing. So at least it works and – yes – this is the look expected. Maybe it's not yet close enough.

@D7K
Here is another one to be compared with your original x-ray LUT. I tested this one with several different shots and images and I'd say the look is same as with using your original LUT.

Former user wrote on 8/13/2019, 3:38 AM

@Marco. Not an early riser :D.

Both work fine, yesterdays and todays, in that order, left to right ...

Marco. wrote on 8/13/2019, 3:50 AM

@Former user
One is LUT "InvBlue.cube", right?

Could you also compare "Luts.cube" (the original LUT D7K linked in his second post) against "DrBlue.cube" (the last one I linked).

Between these two are no noticeable differences on my shots.

Former user wrote on 8/13/2019, 3:55 AM

@Marco. The one on the left is invBlue. The sky is better, more even, on the last one you posted, on the right.

Not at PC now, will do shortly.

@Marco. @D7K Its a Google account, password protected. I tried my email and password, didn't work, asked Google to update password, then I just realised, maybe its D7K's that it needed? Anyway I got no email from Google to update.

Marco can you make D7K's lut available via a link that doesn't require a log in, say a dropbox link?

Marco. wrote on 8/13/2019, 4:59 AM

I could but I don't know if D7K would agree. So I'd wait for a feedback from him.

@D7K

Meanwhile what I found out:

Your LUT which doesn't work in VP17 seems to be a 256x256x256 3D LUT. This LUT size usually is not used in video production but is meant for either calibration of digital to film conversion or for highest quality large size photo prints.
For video production with the use of interpolated 3D LUTs, sizes between 17x17x17 and 64x64x64 are common while the 64 flavor of it should be more than enough for 12 bit video used in float point projects with high quality demands. But even 128x128x128 3D LUTs work fine in Vegas Pro 17. This (128) then might be the limit in Vegas Pro 17.

For your particular case it means you should either select a different LUT size for your LUT export out of Photoshop where I'd go for something between 32 and 64 (my guess is the Vegas Pro exported LUTs are 36x36x36). Or use a LUT converter to shrink your given 256 LUT to something between 32 and 64.
Even size values below 32 should be fine if you like the result. The lower the LUT size is, the better the playback and render performance in Vegas Pro will be (and another reason I would not use LUT sizes above 64).

Former user wrote on 8/13/2019, 6:02 AM

@Marco. Understood, luts like you’ve got it sorted anyway.

D7K wrote on 8/13/2019, 8:45 AM

Yep, that is the answer and you can change the LUT in many ways in photo shop, I use a 32 medium setting and it works well. Now the only thing I want to get working on my laptop and desktop is Screen Capture, tried everything suggested so far and still no joy - but I am patient on that one, LUTs are key for a new large project I've just started.

Thank you Macro for your help.

D7K wrote on 8/13/2019, 8:46 AM

Yes, you can put it on drop box Macro
