Maybe, the re-design of VP18 plugin window seems to be big failure.

VEGAS Movie Studio 17 has been released. Its plugin window has been re-designed. Maybe Vegas Pro 18 will also be equipped this plugin window. So I also talk about it here.

  • It seems that "32-bit" group disappeared. (In 32bit project, 8 bit plugin probably make render suspend)
  • Plugins' description and information disappeared. (description and information make you know what the plugins can do; and whether it is 32 bit compatible; and which group it belong to )

  • Third-party plugins become more non-easy to use:

For example, in former version, just one click "Sapphire Render", you can see all FX of "Sapphire Render" group.

But now, you should click "Filter" button, and then uncheck all other "Sapphire XXX" group to see only "Sapphire Render"s FX. This waste several times as much time than former version.

If you want to only see "Sapphire time" group in this version, you should click "Filter" button, and then uncheck "Sapphire Render", and then check "Sapphire time"..... How trouble it is! Former version just need one click.

If you check all third-party plugins' group, you will find that there are too many similar FX name. It is ao messy. For example, you can't distinguish the "blur" you selected is form sapphire or redgiant or FXhome! Different companies' plugins' blur have different power.

Former version's tree view can distinguish them very easy.

Furthermore, everytime restart software, the all groups will be checked auto. What ....

The re-design seems a big failure... Who designed the new plugins windos on earth...

The "32 bit group", description and information are still there in the old tree view available in the "Plug-In Chooser". It's just that now you have to go there to get it

We need an updated version of the audio plugins most of them look the same as they were in 1999.

new

And we need more bands for EQ plugins as shown in the pic and show us the graph where all the frequencies are just like in the picture where all the whites lines and spikes are under the red line

VP EQ plugin is OLD

I agree that the appearance of the audio plugins in Vegas Pro is now very, very dated; and the appearance of the fabfilter FX are very impressive; however, fabfilter products are 3rd party plugins that I assume you can purchase for use in Vegas Pro as well as in other vst enabled NLEs such as Resolve. Equally, iZotope offer a really good range of audio vst plugins that look way better than the default audio FX in Vegas Pro. But like fabfilter, you have to buy them.

BTW, Fairlight in Resolve is mentioned, but the range of default audio FX in Resolve is scant compared to the many default audio FX in Vegas Pro.

Yes, the FX in Vegas Pro is long overdue for an appearance update, but my guess is that the level of 3rd party plugin sophistication found in iZotope and fabfilter will not be added to VP other than maybe by a 'bonus limited/special/etc edition' that will almost certainly be limited to the VP version it comes with (e.g. VP 18) but most probably would not work with later VP versions (e.g. VP 19+).

I want to do a lot of audio stuff like 3d audio for 360 video or vr even 7.1 or 22.2 not everyone has the money to buy audio plugins especially now and I don't use DaVinci resolve I hope that do something about. That are going to competes with Adobe in an interview you with Gary and fxhome but how long would it take VP to get there

I think in the next 4 to 5 years or I might be wrong

And I don't think VP 18 would get a big update like DaVinci resolve BC or what happening it might be until next year before we something amazing like

More support for nested timeline working as a group farm media management cold storage etc just like avid media

To me I think VP is one of the best video editing software for making yt video to feature films.

Adobe DaVinci resolve Vegas Pro avid

And more and more professionals are leaving final cut BC of AIFF

DaVinci Resolve is free - only Studio requires a purchase. Though the comparison page has apparently gone, the major difference between free Resolve and Studio was that 'free' didn't have collaborative functions and noise reduction. Maybe that's different now in the audio area.

The Vegas Pro/FXHome interview clearly stated that the VP/FXHome partnership started last year with Post - it's already there, not 4 to 5 years away.

Seriously, if you are so enamoured with Resolve, Adobe or Avid, then one of those may well be the NLE best suited to your purposes.

Maybe I'm missing something (wouldn't be the 1st) but I've always been confused by the different Vegas plugin groups. Many plugins appear in both the 32-bit Floating Point group as well as in GPU Accelerated. At first I thought that meant they were both available if you turned the gpu on/off in Preferences/Video. But found out that was not the case when doing blue ray authoring that reacted badly to certain gpu-assisted plugins. But if there are 2 different plugins for gpu and cpu, there's no indication of what you selected in the About screen.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 5/10/2020, 8:19 PM

Speaking of DaVinci Resolve, they all got the idea over on their forum that all AMD cards are unable of doing timeline decoding. Meanwhile I think I exploded a few heads when I pointed out that if they require Resolve (or any other NLE) to decode with Nvidia cards, they'd have to give up ProRes.

@EricLNZ - There’s much, much work to be done here. Try doing a Search for an FX? It’s glacially slow. By the time the Search is complete, I’ve more or less forgotten just what it was I wanted to apply and for what reason. Very behind the Curve. I’ve been using BORIS and in that there is a GUI that’s to die for. The User gets to see/preview what would happen to the clip and then apply it. In VegasPro you get that stock EYE graphic. Really!?! No, either change things or get or buy a front end that will achieve what we want. There’s got to be convergence of wish and outcome. Presently there’s neither.

The Creative endeavour and its ideas are like “Arrows in Flight” - if not grasped and captured immediately there are gone, forever. Anything that impedes my Outcome is a no-no.

Still using VP. Still luvin’ it. However, there’s some much needed improvement needed as it matures towards its mid-twenties.
