Movie Studio 14 will not install

kim-mayberry wrote on 4/11/2017, 3:29 PM

I purchased version 13 with the 14 upgrade when available package.  I am using Windows 64 bit Widows 7.  In mid-May I received the links to upgrade to version 14.  I downloaded it but it will not install.  It asks me what components I want to install and then goes to a screen that instructs me to not do anything until everything is finished exacting and installing but it just sits there at 0% complete.  It actually goes into pause mode.   I have tried doing nothing as it instructed and then I tried to restart the download but it goes immediately back to pause.

I opened one ticket and was first told to make sure that I turn the Net Framework on in the operating system.  I did but it still wouldn't install.  Then I was told to uninstall one of my Microsoft Office updates.  Still wouldn't install.  Then I was told to go to the website and download the link there.  Still the same problem.  When I responded to tell them that it didn't work I was informed that my ticket was closed and to open another!

So I opened another ticket on 3-29 explaining what happened in the first ticket and I haven't heard anything from them.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try?

No.  The only thing that downloads from the link or website is the .exe file so there is not \MAGIX Dowloads/Installationsmanager folder.  I tried to install as administrator using the right click.  Not sure what you mean by Settings/Compatability?

vegasmoviestudio14platinum_dlm.exe

I never see the first screen where it asks what language I want.  A window flashes for a split second - so fast you can't see anything.  I do get the second screen where I can make choices.  Regardless of what choices I pick, it takes me to the installation screen where it says "please wait until the installation components are downloaded completely".  I get a spinning wheel for just a couple of seconds like it is working on downloading and then the wheel quits spinning and it looks like it goes into pause mode and there it sits at 0% forever.  It does this using the link they emailed me or if I try it from the website.

I see the button in my taskbar for just one or two seconds but nothing on my screen.  After that the screen I see is the one you posted before (with the guy jumping on the rocks) where it asks me to make 1 - 4 choices.  After I chose, the wheel spins for only a second and then goes into pause mode.  It does not make any progress.

This is similar to what I'm experiencing, but not even getting that far. I am on the newest Windows 10 major update. I just wasted $80 as of now as the program appears to be extracting somewhere, but then I get a quick black window that appears and goes away faster than I can tell what it says. There does appear to be a spinning, spoked wheel of sorts, but it's only for a split second. That's as far as I get with the installer that Kim-Mayberry mentioned. Running it as an admin yields the same results. Frustrated.

Yes, I tried a different browser.

If it's the Platinum version that you want, try installing directly from this:

http://dl04.magix.net/2017/VEGASMovieStudio14/VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14.0.0.105_Platinum_Trial.exe

Cornico (or anyone else), does that match the file name of the file that gets left behind in Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager? If so then you can ignore that it says "Trial" in it and assume it's the full retail version.

If you want basic Movie Studio, not Platinum, it looks like the latest installer is this:

http://dl04.magix.net/2017/VEGASMovieStudio14/VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14.0.0.87_Trial.exe

Has there been a later build of the basic version? If anyone has one, please let me know how you got it.

Nick, although the file names are different, the files appear identical. After purchasing I merely inserted my registration number into my trial version. I didn't bother uninstalling and installing the 'full retail' version. I recall a post where Magix advised this was okay.

What's the file name you have? I would rather link to a "retail" version in the FAQs etc. than a "trial" version, even if they're the same.

Unfortunately I only archived one file, the trial version as that's the one I used.

Apologies as on checking my paper notes I find I didn't even download the retail version for MS14. I just activated my trial. It was MS13 which I purchased a few months prior where I downloaded both but didn't use the retail version. MS13 had a different download system. My order confirmation email had links to all the actual files.

With MS14 Platinum in my confirmation email the links for MS14 Plat and Magix Music Maker were dlm files while the other items were links to the actual files. On activating the MS14 dlm I got the box with all (or most) items shown so didn't need to use the email links. Rather confusing.

Nick,  I am not sure who you were directing your answer too regarding downloading the link directly from the website but I did try that.  I got the exact same results.  Not sure why they just can't send me a disk like they did for Version 13.

kim-mayberry wrote on 4/26/2017, 8:26 AM

It never asks me where it should download the files.  The only window I see is where it asks me what files I want to download.  It stops there.

Yes, I can find the installer wizard in My Documents.  When I click on the file it says that "it is not a valid Win32 application:  I am using windows 64 bit.  This is the installer for the trial version from the website though.  I can't find an installer for the link that was emailed to me.

sigh.....

In:   My Documents/MAGIX Downloads/Installationmaager   there is only a file named "VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14.0.0.105_Platinum_Trial_14_0_0_105.exe" as you stated above.

When I click on it I get the message that it is not a valid Win32 application.  It will not allow me to download it.

There are no other Vegas or Magix related folders or files on my computer other than the link they emailed to me.

I have devoted enough time to this.  I will continue to use my version 13 until I find a different product.

Yes, version 13 is on the same machine.

No, it is not 32 bit.  It says Version 13 (build 955) 64-bit.

Yes I know for a fact I run a 64 bit OS.

I am almost out of possibilities and suggestions.
My last one:

Copy the exe file in My Documents/MAGIX Downloads/Installationmanager /  "VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14.0.0.105_Platinum_Trial_14_0_0_105.exe"

to your desktop, rightclick on it and choose something like "execute as administrator".

kim-mayberry wrote on 4/26/2017, 2:27 PM

already tried that.  Thanks for you help.  Like I said, I will find a different product.

Please report this via https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/vegas/form , including as much detailed information about the problem as you can.

kim-mayberry wrote on 4/27/2017, 7:14 AM

I already did that too.  They suggested three different things to try and then closed out my ticket.  I opened another ticket and never heard a thing from them.

Kim, what security system are you using and have you tried temporarily turning it off.

EricLNZ wrote on 4/27/2017, 5:49 PM

Another thought Kim. It might sound silly but when the installation appears to hang try moving the window aside to see if there's something behind sitting waiting for action from you. It has happened to me recently but I cannot recall whether it was MS.

SOLVED: Kim, try this on Windows 10 (06/2018): Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection >  Virus & threat protection settings > Manage Controlled folder access > Turn Off "Controlled folder access" option. Try install vegasmoviestudio14platinum_dlm.exe again.
