MPG OK but can't see in viewer or trimmer or timeline.

Hey

OK this is for Vegas pro 12.

Lately just in the last week Vegas has been doing this.

I can import a known good mpg (2) video. Audio is good but no video in the preview/timeline/trimmer.

I know for a fact the video files are good because I just processed them for DVDA just a couple days prior. I can also view them PERFECTLY through ANY player. I wanted to re-edit them to reduce bit size.

The only thing I have installed before that was a couple of Subtitle editors and a xvid codec. Figuring that may have been the cause I uninstalled the codec and the subtitle editors then uninstalled Vegas then re-installed Vegas. But that didn't help at all so at the moment Vegas is pretty much non working, at least till we can figure out what's going on. I also had to swap out my RX480 video card so I could RMA it (for the 3rd time). I replaced it with a known good (backup) video card which is a Geforce 430.

I'm guessing it must be one of them that is causing the problem but uninstalling and reinstalling hasn't helped so that is the reason for this thread. I have contacted Magix about it but no comment from them yet. It's only been a week.

So has anyone run into this or have any thoughts as to the problem??

Please show us the MediaInfo information on the MPG2 file.

Does this happen with other file formats?

Try turning off GPU. You switched from AMD to Nvidia, and that can be messy.

I used DDU to do a clean uninstall of the AMD drivers first at a safe boot. Then installed the Nvidia drivers.

I've had to do this a couple times before never ran into this problem. So i'm at a loss. No info other than 720x480 with a bit rate of 4mbit with a file size of about 1gig or less . This does it even with avi/wmv file types also.

Hey all

Well I think I have determined that I THINK it's Vegas that's causing the problem. The reason I say that is I went back to a project I finished last month and NONE of the video files are editable/viewable in Vegas. I know those files are good the DVD burnt fine and works as created. I even copied off the files in imported them into Vegas but no help there.

So I'm thinking something blew a gasket in Vegas but can't figure out what. Since I did do a uninstall and reinstall of Vegas which did not help at all. So I'm at a loss. At this point I'm still trying things but not sure where to go with it.

Run through the items in this post: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/ You might start with the clean reinstall instructions linked to in section 18.

Thanks Nick!

After following the instructions from this link I was able to get Vegas working again.

Must have been something not uninstalling using the normal uninstaller.

I did have to turn off hardware processing though. Some videos would fly others would not till I unchecked it.

So now everything is back to working! It does take about a minute longer to process videos but I can for sure live with that.

Thanks again!
