My last shot with VP12

Search exhaustively please, the DVDAPro forum - many different problems come up - i recall some have to do with not handling .wav file import correctly and gets complicated after that...there is no "advantage" to Version 6.0 other than creating a 3D blu-ray disc with standard 2D menus. Note the idea - strange !

Nothing changed between 5.0b and 5.2 other than again some 3D work which itself has proven not to work well.

Nick: (By the way I can't find any release notes to see what changed between 5.2 and 6.0, but I don't think it was much).

Here yah goes . . .

Well there it is... VP 12 locked up, and hard. A lot of applications will recover under Windows 7.. you know .. Not Responding... and then it comes back.... not Vp12.. I gave it 5 minutes and I was done. Nothing changed from last night. My last install was MS Office ran my test 3-4 times. Even starting feeling safe to start working on my current project then tonight I started at it again, did a test render just to see how it would cope and nope ..nada.. locked up! I really can't afford to waste anymore time with VP 12, I have VP 10 and it's pretty rock solid for me. I have my MAC with FCP X. I think I am going to start my slow migration over to FCP X , and I mean really slow. I really love the level of control Vegas gives me but Sony is so slow to roll with the changes or at least give me something that is at least stable. I don't get it. I tried, I really did. I didn't install anything hairy or funky out of the blue stuff. What I posted here is what I installed. Is it really to much to ask... I'm not paying for tech support. I've paid my dues here, I've been on Vegas since VP8, I know some of you are even further back and if VP12 is working for you then great... I'm jealous..... and I'm tired. Thanks guys! Sony ... I don't know what to say... I like your cameras..... the rest well.... I said enough.

Thanks again everybody....

Sad . . . . You've been a total Star-Man.

One last thing from me: Do you use any ASIO driver sets? An external audio card/box?

Myerz, I don't have any MS Office installed right here, but the alternate, open source OpenOffice, and newer Kingsoft Office, and both of them are free.

If you are working a lot with script written in MS Doc format documents, you may want to try Kingsoft Office. Fully supports for popular MS Office format. I had no conflict issues between these...
So, if you still want to try again..., before giving up the VP12... Hope this helps...

Other issue of crash I face now in my system: NewBlue Titler Pro2.
This always crashed when I opened the interface twice, and make some adjustment. First time loading interface not a problem, but second time boom.
So my trick now is to add these titles last, or use it as needed.
Some 3rd party plug-ins also does similar, including Beauty Box during my trial testing.

Here is a list of things to look out for from my own experience:

a) latest Nvidia driver is a no go; for a GTX460 use 275.33 driver; stable and fast.
b) Uninstall mouse & keyboard drivers/software such as latest Logitech Setpoint; causes issues on many levels
c) check all your harddrive connectors! I had a slight loose SATAIII connector that caused random errors. It was in the socket but didnt really latch on.
d) Ensure you have a good and I mean very good power supply. A GTX460 when under load can draw a substential amount of power but it is a great GPU and with the right driver almost as good as a GTX570; speaking from experience here.
e) build 486 of VP12 isnt really that great at all. I switched back to 394 which you can still download from SCS. 486 also has an issue with the preview window when you select to compare with a clipboard stored image.
f) RAM timing. if you did some OC then go back to a conservative timing; one that matches your RAM. Also ensure it is fully engaged in the socket.
g) When rendering with a template that allows for GPU acceleration be sure to select CUDA and not OpenCL or Automatic.
h) If you have recently build the PC, check your CPU socket. Sounds strange but I had some tiny bit of lint on my previous 1155 socket that I only discovered in a desperate attempt to get my PC repaired. I actually bought a new CPU just to find that this really tiny bit of dirt caused all the random behavior.
i) Windows 7 has an update since a couple of month ago that would install driver 301.?? for NVIDIA cards the moment that GPU is dedected. That caused me many issues with my GTX570 and Vegas and Solidworks. Disable the Windows Update; boot into windows safe mode; uninstall every bit of NVIDIA driver by booting into safe mode after the first uninstall and check if there is still a driver listed. Install the NVIDIA driver in safe mode and make sure you check clean install; I again recommend 275.33 for a GTX460. Once you are done, don't let Windows 7 install any update over it. Windows 7 Update also will prompt you to update the WDM (Windows Desktop Management) driver but don't do it.
j) WACOM tablet drivers are also a concern from what I read in this forum but I havent tested it myself.

That is all I can think off early in the morning. I wouldnt give up on VP and sure not VP12. The only thing I must add is that I try to make it work with what ever Vegas has to offer, meaning as little 3rd party plug-ins as possible. I only recently installed NB Titler Pro and that caused problems from the start and I uninstalled it yesterday. BCC is a great package but also causes issues and it's very resource intensive; realtime playback can only be done at a low preview setting on my system. I tried different software too, FCP, Avid, PP and EDIUS but just cant get things done as fast as in VP. I also find the workflow very efficient in VP and I can get clips on the timeline, make transitions and apply FX in no time when compared to other software.

How do you do that? Never seen that option.

That applies to VP12; VP11 has a similar dropdown box but with different wording.

I don't know if this has been covered in this thread yet... didn't read all of it..

your system needs to run clean.
most things you install add crap to start up and services that run in the background assuming they are the only important thing to run on your computer... and so they all add up.
Office is crap and I never use it, preferring free OPEN OFFICE for Word, spreadsheet and power point stuffs.

warning!! Advanced stuff here, you could stop your system from working!!!

1. check STARTUP folder. unless you have a special mouse or something, USUALLY start up should be empty.

2. Run: MSCONFIG !!!WARNING!!! be careful here!!!
go to START UP and uncheck anything that you know what it is, that doesn't have to run:
Skype, HP printer crap is NEVER needed, itunes, apple junk, weird plugin updater, google updater etc... leave the stuff that might be hardware related, or you dont know what it is.
Go to SERVICES tab, checkmark "Hide all Microsoft services" and then click status to sort by "Running". Again, uncheck worthless things like itunes, stupid adobe and java updates (just do those manually when the urge hits you), leave stuff if you don't know what it is.

*On my home system, I have NOTHING in Startup, and I think ONE Nvidia thing listed under services and THAT IS IT. Nothing else in there. In task manager Processes, I have MAYBE 12 things listed as running TOTAL. That is all Windows needs to run.

3. download CCLEANER and under TOOLS go to START UP And see what is listed. There can be stuff listed there not found by the methods above. disable as much as you can.

All this can make an old slow gunked up system run faster and more like new. Not to mention free up a bunch of ram and CPU processing for Video work.

Good luck!

Myerz,

I have two computers using VP 12, one of them now works AOK after some fiddling, yelling and what not, one of them only works on v394, crashes constantly on v486, the problems seem very similar to the random errors you are experiencing.

You are not allowed to leave this forum until you figure out the exact cause of your issue and forward your findings. Thank you, carry on.

Other than the Titler Pro add-on is all the hassle really worth it when VP10 seems to operate under the (my) current condition?

What benefits make this journey worth the travel?

Don't get me wrong I operate with the hope that when programs evolve they get better, so with VP12 how so? I can read all the listed enhancements that Sony talks about, I haven't had the pleasure to discover them seeing how I can't get VP12 to run longer than 8 hours.... you'd think VP10, seeing how it's older, would be more prone to not work... not the new stuff. ???

I'll try derating my video drivers and give an alternative Office app a try. But, wow! all the hoops you have to jump through. Can you only imagine if every other software application was this touchy? Nobody would be able to install anything because everything would cause everything else not to run.... that would be crazy!

@ MX... I don't need that... I have tried numerous times to work this out... at some point you have to kick it to the curb.
You must be one of those who like to be abused! ;-) .... just sayin'

videoITguy wrote on 2/26/2013, 8:36 PM
I don't ever recall searching for a software app that was evolving to get better stability - no that is counter intuitive. If an app is stable it can be built on with features - that is successfull software development.

VegasPro stopped being stable after release of 9.0e - hence all further development has been buggy. You need to ask yourself one more time - what do "I" want here?

In situations like this I find it best to take a break for a while and then come back to it later. Allows one to clear their mind and figure things out much better later on.

Always works for me.

@ ITGuy ...I want my money's worth...

Here's something funny... this morning I deleted VP12, re-installed it a couple of minutes ago...
I opened it up and seconds later a pop-up comes up and reads.... For more stability a new version is available.... Version 11.0.486... Ha! They want me to down grade... VP10 will do just fine!
I want to get VP12 working so I'll try the fixes.
I downgraded my video driver, we'll see where that gets me.... baby steps. ;-)

Does anyone know why I might not see BCC 8 in VP12 and I do in VP10.
In the install I did choose to have both VP10 and VP12 run under BCC 8's installation. ???

I don't understand your response, gathering anything to do with abuse from my comment.

I found this thread to be overly-dramatic announcing to other users of the program that you were giving up on it.
