No codec AVCHD for Movie Studio 16

Wieslaw-Walczak13 wrote on 9/5/2021, 1:10 PM

I recently purchased a Movie Studio 16 suite. I have a problem because I cannot generate AVCHD files - the program says that it is missing. Unfortunately, the missing codec could not be installed. I followed the description for error -1 but it didn't help. How do I install the missing codec? Can anybody help me? Thank you in advance for any help on this topic.

Did you in fact installed the program as adminestrator and also runned the program as adminestrator?
Normal the program contacts here base (Magix) to install the to use codecs every time and must do that without your permission other than given as admin.

Hi!

Thank you for answer. I am the only user on the computer and I have an administrator account. I installed all the programs, including Movie Studio 16, without any problems. But Movie Studio informs that I do not have full rights (as can be seen in the attached screenshot). I have no idea why this is so. In the case of Vegas Pro 11 and 13, which I bought long ago, there is no such problem with the codecs. What should I do to get this codec installed for Movie Studio?

Hi!

I've noticed that after installing the AVCHD codec from the original Movie Studio 16 Platinum disc, it is working. The problem begins when the program proposes to update to a newer version. After installing it, the codec does not work. So I think the problem is with the Movie Studio update.

Which AVCHD codec? My AVCHD files use "compoundplug.dll".

VMS16 Platinum Build 175.

From where did you recently purchase your VMS16 Suite?

Wieslaw-Walczak13 wrote on 9/10/2021, 11:16 AM

Hi!

I bought legally the program in July 2021 in the Pixonet store, which is an authorized software provider in Poland.

As I wrote before - after installing from the original CD (I bought the box version), the AVCHD codec works, after installing the update proposed by the program and after reinstalling it, the codec does not work. The update forces a reactivation. I also reported this issue to Pixonet and they sent my description to Magix.

Best regard - Wiesław

@Wieslaw-Walczak13 Please confirm that you are online when VMS tries to reactivate the codec.

Also try a"Factory reset". Instructions here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/ Whilst written for Vegas Pro it also applies to VMS.

I've just realised on re-reading your posts that it's an export (render) problem, not a reading of files issue. Which render template are you trying to use to generate your AVCHD files?

Wieslaw-Walczak13 wrote on 9/11/2021, 12:44 PM

Hi!

Yes, I'm online all the time. As for the resulting AVCHD files, I am interested in generating m2ts or avc files (for DVD Architect) 1920 x 1080 25 fps. For me it is strange that the program forces activate again after updating. I think Magix should check and correct the update to a newer version.

Best regards,

Wiesław

I've not encountered the problem and I cannot recall others having it so it appears something unique to your system.

Item 10 in this thread from Nick Hope mentions the codecs that need unlocking. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-faqs-and-troubleshooting-guides--104787/ The only one involved would be Magix AVC if you use that. You haven't told us which template(s) you are using. Are you using the Magix or Sony templates?

Did you do a "Factory reset" and clear the cache?

I am also having the same problem, I am running the program as Administrator and it will not activate the CODEC.

EricLNZ wrote on 2/4/2023, 6:44 PM

@Bill-Little Unfortunately the previous poster did not report back so we don't know if any of the suggestions solved their problem.

Try temporarily disabling your security system while VMS tries to activate the codec. If that doesn't work please advise:

  1. Your VMS version and build number
  2. Was your VMS originally installed from a physical disc or download
  3. If a physical disc from where did you purchase it and has it subsequently been updated by a download
  4. Which template is giving you the Codec problem
Bill-Little wrote on 2/4/2023, 6:45 PM

I am attempting to render using Sony AVC/MVC with the Template AVCHD 1920x1080 60i 5.1 Surround. I have the same software installed on my Desktop and it works. Both are 175 build.

Bill-Little wrote on 2/4/2023, 6:57 PM

I tried it with security off, as administrator, same thing. VMS 16 Platinum 175 Build. Bought by download.

"Installation failed. Code:-1

EricLNZ wrote on 2/4/2023, 7:00 PM

5.1 audio. Possibly the codec is no longer available due to licence problems. Have you previously rendered from your laptop using this same template?

Search the forum and you will find threads on 5.1 issues and possible workarounds.

Bill-Little wrote on 2/4/2023, 8:23 PM

I don't remember if it had worked before, but I will see if i can find a workaround.

Thanks for the input

EricLNZ wrote on 2/5/2023, 1:34 AM

@Bill-Little It appears from posts on this forum and the Magix Community forum that the Magix download server is playing up. I wonder if this is also affecting codec unlocking?

Same problem: VEGAS Pro 20.0 (Build 326), Installed from www.vegascreativesoftware.com . I try to render using Sony AVC/MVC with the Template AVCHD 1920x1080 50i Stereo. Error code 0xc004f011. It also the same for all AVCHD in SONY Templates.

@fid Suggest you start a new thread for your Vegas Pro 20 problem as this is a Movie Studio 16 problem thread that you've posted in.

SOLUTION NO AVCHD CODEC FOR Movie Studio 16 Platinum

In version version MS 16 built 140, the AVCHD plugin does work.

I had a somewhat older download of MS 16 (built 140)

1. Install version 16 build 140.

2. Copy the FileIO Plug-Ins folder to a temporary location.

3. Install the update to built 175 via "help" and "about".

4. Copy the saved FileIO Plug-Ins folder over the newly installed one.

Now the AVCHD plugin works

It's actually crazy that MAGIX or Vega Creative software does not have a solution for this

I have Movie Studio 16.0 Platinum. I've made 8 movies with this software and the same computer. All were made w/o a problem. Have movie #9 done on the time line. However, when trying to 'Make a Movie' half-way thru I get the following message no matter where I try to save. "An error occurred while creating the media file.mp4. The selected codec does not support the current render settings."

What am I doing wrong? How can I successfully download and save my work?

EricLNZ wrote on 1/10/2024, 7:22 PM

@Gerald-Schofield Which render template are you using and have you modified it? Also are you using any GPU for processing?
