Nvidia GTX 1080Ti 11GB GDDR5X 352-Bit will Rendering Speed up?

Hello looking to purchase a new system & run Vegas Pro 15 (going for a i7 8700K), just watched a YouTube video (Render Faster in Vegas Pro 15 with nVidia GPU | GTX 6xx or Newer - 15/01/2018) and the creator was using a nVidia GPU GTX 1060 3gb.

Things seemed to be going great (in the YouTube video) in terms of brighter & significantly faster rendering. It looks as though an 11 GB GPU card over a 3 GB GPU Card really might be quite a bit better? Is this true?

Looking to the future (next 6 months) however as of now would a Nvidia GTX 1080Ti 11GB GDDR5X 352-Bit (it's the 11GB part I'm interested in) would a 11gb card be x 2/3 faster then a 3GB Card? It seems it might be significantly faster with the latest Vegas 15 editions. Also looking to use with a Samsung 960 Pro SSD.

I believe you're talking about hardware rendering option Magix AVC codec that uses NVENC hardware encoder on the Nvidia graphics card. The rendering speed would likely be very similar with the GTX 10** series cards. It's not really the graphics card rendering it's an independent module that's the same on that line of cards.

You will see improvments speed wise when it comes to filters/plugins that use GPU processing, that is utalises the actual GPU & not the nvenc asic . Or you should. I would hope you do. It's more difficult to predict with vegas as it's processing engine does not take full advantage of GPU. My GTX 1070 will use up to 80% of GPU power with video processing on Adobe Premiere, but Vegas uses less than 40%

I would expect some people here have benchmarked nvidia cards with vegas & could give you a clearer answer,

@adam-b I have build pretty much the system you are planning to have (see my profile), do not expect wonders from it however, I choose this PC build as a golden midway for both good gaming support and video editing. And for gaming it really excels!

I choose a blower style of video card (like the nvidea reference). This is a less popular product with all the different vendor cooling solutions to differentiate themselves on the market, but the blower type blows the hot air out of my PC straight up (bottom to top) as my PC case is a Silverstone Fortress where the motherboards are mounted 90 degrees different than usual, having the heat exhaust and the cabling (unavoidably) on top the PC.

@bitman - thanks for you input. How's the experience with GTX 1080 Ti while editing multi-cam 4K? I'm not as concerned with the rendering at this point since my GTX 1060 is good enough, but it struggles to keep up with Preview frame rate. I understand I can use proxies but sometimes it's not readily available for quick jobs.

I came across this recently with a friends Panasonic 4K consumer camera. Having only 25P and not 50P does severely limit the usefulness of 4K. I wonder what the reason is?

How so? Isn't 25 P a "useful" frame rate? Here in NTSC land I have always typically used 24p or 30p. I would only use 60P for slow motion as otherwise it makes the footage look too "soap opera" like for my taste.

We're getting off topic (my fault) but personally I find 25p far too jerky when you have motion across the screen which is close or fast. 50p gives much smoother natural movement. TV here is 50 fps albeit 50i not 50p. Yes I realise film was shot at 24 fps and years ago we shot Std8 home movies at only 16fps but film is a very different medium to digital.

Regarding 50p: I film mostly handheld and tend to pan (slowly) but frequently, that makes a world of difference in 50P versus 25P. 25P is indeed too jerky.

@EricLNZ the reason for 25P limit @ XAVC-S - 4K for my RX10iii is probably the max bitrate constraint which is 100Mb/s for XAVC-S.

If 4K XAVC-S would record in 50P in the same best quality what 25P is able to record in the RX10iii (100 Mb/s) then it would need to be able to handle speeds of 200 Mb/s for 4K XAVC-S which is impossible, max speed defined for 4K XAVC-S is 100Mbps.

You may think my camera would be able to do 4K XAVC-S 50P at 50Mbps as it can do 4K XAVC-S 25P at 100Mbps, but it does not offer that option (possibly the quality would be only half as good anyway with the reduced bitrate).

Maybe you can provide us with a small sample of your source file.

Here I show you the biggest XAVC I mxf file I have: 4K 50p 460-500 Mbps in a VPro 15 project. Not too bad (I think) for such a big file.

Preview Auto is certainly a low setting, mine is always at Best/Full.

You may try it with this type of file and simultaniously use hardware videocapturing at FullHD 50 p at laptop and show us that.

With me that type of files untill 100 Mbps with also videocapture are also playing at Best/Full at 50fps, no problem for me, so show us your settings with a 500 Mbps file.

Bit rate is not an indication of how well a file plays in Vegas. In fact, higher bit rates most likely play better as there is less compression, less work to decode the file for editing. XAVC-S is highly compressed, especially 4K files.

It's not important how well these 500Mbps files play on my system, I don't have a camera that produces such files. It would be more interesting to see how well 4K files from my camera work on your system and if you like, you can download 3 samples from here. These are 4K XAVC-S 29.97 100Mbps files from my a6300. Put that on your timeline in a 4K, 8bit project and make a 1 second crossfade and tell us how well it plays back at Best/Full.

@Nick Hope That is about the same performance I get on my system with SVP13, VP14 is slightly better. Even with straight cuts does the fps dip a little after the cut. My initial testing of the first build of VP15 was actually worse than Nick's and after disabling the so4compound.dll it got better. It feels as if Vegas doesn't read ahead sufficiently. It would be nice if users could test the latest version of VP15 but that is unfortunately not possible and Magix seems to be deaf on that ear.

That would be the card I am interested in, the version 1 HBM is limited to 4GB. Not sure if Resolve is supporting it but Vegas for sure doesn't.

Check out this video , Davinci Resolve. After I saw this video and my mind were set for that system and that is the new system I am going to build with in the intention to overclock at 4Ghz all 16 cores.
