Just learned from the folks at Red Giant Software, they are going to stop providing software for Vegas users--"there just aren't enough" were his exact words.
Magic Bullet Looks will be discontinued as a result.
There's hardly a project that goes through my machine that doesn't get at least a touch of MBL, hence why I am still (unfortunately) still using 32 bit Vegas. Absolutely love and depend on it. If they really are no longer going to release a Sony compatible version I for one will be gravely disappointed. The only shortcoming I've ever wished they would address beyond coming out with a 64 bit version is allowing some of the effects to be keyframed/animated,
Maybe Sony need to do what Adobe did & completely ditch 32-bit support for some things. IE AE5 is 64-bit only, nobody seems to say it's a bad program because of that. Vegas would get more 64-bit support & perhaps keep growing more because of it.
Can someone remind me which older version of (32bit) Vegas Pro I need to install on a new machine with only VP 10, to get the Magic Bullet Looks back? Is it 9, 8? I remember it was present in version 7 for sure (this was my first Vegas version I used), but wouldn't like to install such an old stuff on a new, clean W7 system...
Looks like 8 because I don't have 8 in "My Software" any more. I never owned any of the odd number versions. Maybe it was 6 but I only see Boris in my extra downloads.
I'd suggest you just e-mail support & ask how to download Magic Bullet Quick Looks again. They told me how to re-download Boris after my disc got destroyed.
I have Vegas Pro 8.0c and 10.0c installed on XP 32-bit. I just reinstalled everything from scratch this week. I have a file vegasmovielooks_hd.exe 1.32 MB, created 3rd July 2007. I'm not sure which version it came with (I have had 6, 7, 8 and 10) but I just ran it and it didn't ask for any further serial numbers and it works fine in both 8.0c and 10.0c 32-bit versions. Send me an email through the forum ;)
Edit: I'm thinking my file came with Vegas 8. I can't find the version 7 file mentioned by Jøran
Jøran has just emailed the file to me, and it installed on my fresh Win7 system on the second attempt. Luckily, the looks work in VP 10 (32bit of course).
I want to add that Pixelan has some film effects in their anyFX plugin package. These effects are hardware-accelerated. Read more and see examples here:
I personally still find myself using MBL on important projects. I love the look when used in a subtle way. I also prefer the older paid version of Magic Bullet Editors because it gives me sliders directly in Vegas with instand feedback to my monitor. Mojo works this way as well and is nice for skin tone adjustments. I spoke to Red Giant today and they sounded like there is still a possiblity of support but that there have never been any user numbers to justify it. Perhaps if enough people e-mail them with a request to keep the product alive in Vegas they will reconsider.
If we can get enough Vegas users to come together together and have everyone send out an email request to both SonySoftware and RedGiant on the same day, maybe we can move forward?
What about aranging a date and have users bombard both companies with requests for continued support?
