OT - Venting my frustration with VP9.0

I can't check what you're saying in it's entirety (PC uploading) but yes, I see Vegas.exe using around 350MB of RAM. I also see 1.8GB of RAM being used according to system performance. Question, what ate the other 1.5GB of RAM??
Now while Vegas is doing this I try to run SF10 and it's pretty tardy loading and when I exit that getting back to Vegas and working again is very slow. Probably XP is having to ask Vegas for some RAM back or some such.
All just speculation though, sorry but all I can really offer is my sympathy, I'm having as much fun with V9 as you, the only problem I haven't had yet is with external monitoring, that at least is holding up OK.
I did think my troubles in part stemmed from having HDV and XDCAM EX on the T/L but from the problems you're having it would seem not so.

Cliff, I'm capturing HDV with HDVsplit and editing in native .m2t in Vegas 8.0c. It's really extremely stable and responsive. Every now and then I get a file that hangs Vegas but then I just run that file through MPEG2REPAIR and 9 times out of 10 it's fine afterwards.

No red frames. No crashes.

I trialled 9.0a and it was also OK for me, but as an HDV user there weren't sufficient new features to justify the upgrade. I also noticed that previewing was less responsive than 8.0c.

I really don't think you need to go buying 8GB of RAM.

I'm on XP by the way.

Why don't you give my workflow a try before you dump Vegas? I believe it's currently the best/simplest setup/workflow available anywhere for working with HDV.

Memory is so cheap right now they are practically giving it away.

G.Skill 2x2GB Dual Channel RAM kit @ $83.99 from NewEgg = $167.98 for a total of 8GB is what I'm looking to get.

Well, after more research, private emails with those who have moved away from Vegas, and given the nature of what I shoot and how I market my services, Vegas STILL is the best option per $ value.

So an 8GB memory upgrade is ordered from NewEgg and on it's way. I'm thinking once it arrives, a restore of a default install of Win 7 Pro x64 is in order and a reinstall of my apps to make sure everything is as clean as possible.

Thanks to all who participated in this discussion thread - it helped me to refine what it is I need and want since I'm a shooter first and edit out of necessity.

Yes, but I have found that 9C will render huge complex projects that choke 8C - and 9a & b. That's why I edit in 8c but render in 9c. This combo has been rock solid for my light work in Vegas ever since 9C & Win 7 64.

Cliff, FWIW, I'm running 8GB of that exact G.Skill memory in my editing computer. Haven't had a single problem in over a year since building the computer. Great stuff. Mildly overclockable, too.

$0.02,
Steve
