Performance issues - preview playback rate is 8 fps

Stillnet wrote on 3/30/2026, 7:27 AM

I'm trying to create a 2 minute video from about 60 minutes of various clips. The clips range from 1080p to 5.3k, some are 30fps but most are 60fps. I added a dozen clips to my Project Media, then generated proxies for all media. Then dragged one clip to my timeline. I cannot get it to preview smoothly. I have not applied any effects or color grading or anything to the clip yet. I'm just trying to preview the timeline. It lags and studders, playing around 8-15 fps.

I have an i7-11700b with 16GB of ram. This system should be capable of what I'm asking, right? This is what proxies are for?

I've tried all of chatGPTs suggestions like disabling hardware acceleration and re-creating the proxies and changing my project fps to match my media fps.

Any ideas? Thanks.

@Stillnet Which version of Vegas Pro is this?

Vegas Pro 23.

And I do not have a stand alone video card BTW, I'm using the onboard UHD Intel graphics chip.

@Stillnet To use proxies you need to set the preview window to Preview (Full) or Preview (Half), ....?

Thanks. I've have tried it on Draft and on Preview, on Quarter, half, etc. - all setting. My preview window looks incredibly pixelated, it's definitely low resolution, but it stutters and won't play smoothly.

I also checked the project settings for that preview/render quality setting ( I don't recall the exact setting now), it was set to Good, and I tried turning it down even lower - didn't help.

This forum is coming to an end- I'd really try the Boris Fx forum and include MediaInfo so we have an idea of what you ware working with.

Intel QSV is very capable of decoding certain formats.
