Here are a few of the band videos I've been producing.. all shot with mobile phones... our band is virtual, all the recording is done in each of our homes, I mix the tracks at my home in FL using Cakewalk. The other band members in Ottawa, Ontario area.

Our most recent - straight up band stuff.
REO Speedwagon - Roll with the Changes

Enjoyed this one blending new footage with actual VHS footage... having to make everything look old and glitchy.
Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy

One of my most challenging projects because of all the motion tracking..
The Tragically Hip - Another Midnight

I want to post a video on here but mine are all boring woodworking vids n 20mins+ long, often there's 30 or more clips edited with just a short 12fr crossfade, no fancy fx's, but i've got 374vids on YT & have just broken the 20,000 subscriber barrier 😁 I've a love hate relationship with Vegas, but i think that is just modern tech, it's amazing when it works n a complete pain when you can't figure out why it isn't working, Vegas has recently helped me to get 4k vids online by quickly rendering. So thankyou to everyone who's on here who have helped or have put posts which have helped 👍👍

@Ecquillii 👍 I've only been putting more effort into making better videos of my work in the last couple of yrs, they're more educational than entertainment so i keep them simple, but.. i've been posting on YT for quite a few yrs, i used to post all sorts of random stuff, when i started making better vids i deleted almost all the old rubbish i'd posted. except that one, it had to stay 😁👍

set wrote on 10/2/2021, 9:06 AM

It's the endless experience 😁 - just keep going...

no problem on making the video for educational purpose rather than the entertainment!

Still, it's a video for reference.

@set Thanks, 👍 There's a lot more goes into it than some would think, getting the camera set up & filming enough bits while trying to get on and work is the first hurdle. I've been a joiner 37yrs & trying to explain what i do is hard, normally i don't think I just do it, cutting/editing the clips so they flow correctly is next, i'm not keen on a hard cut between events, i prefer a 12fr crossfade, it's less than ½ a second but makes a difference, i then have to watch those 20+mins before rendering, then watch again after render, ..

Having dabbled in closeup insect videography I found it amazing. How big was the fly? How close were you? @Former user

Former user wrote on 10/3/2021, 2:06 AM

@Reyfox I share just for that reason, I learnt from watching others so thought it was time i shared. & without being too bitchy, I got a bit miffed with seeing way too many amateurs making videos that are exactly the same as all the others, with a long pointless intro, then the person stood in front of the camera talking when really you want to be seeing the work being done, then when it finally does switch to what you orig clicked on the thumbnail for you find it's a copy of the last vid you watched, there's no explanation of what they're doing, i suspect it's because they have nothing more to share than what they themselves learnt from YT, then of course some advertising or sponsored crap at the end, there's only so many box joint jigs you can make 🤣🙈 I'm apprentice trained, time served & my vids have none of that rubbish, I film my work & upload it, I don't work to make vids to put on YT if that makes sense, it's eyes on the job start to finish, i try to share as many of my thoughts & reasons for my decisions, & as many tips that i've learnt over the yrs just so others can maybe find it a bit easier to do their jobs & so ignite the creative possibilities 👍

@EricLNZ The hardest thing i find filming the tiny life is getting close to them before they bugger off 😒😂🏃‍♂️ This fly didn't move so i got within 6-10", it was 10-12mm in size & so engrossed in the solvent based paint, maybe it was stoned, Modern phone cameras are amazing now, it did most of the work focusing etc. 👍

@Former user I'm still amazed. Obviously your phone camera has a great zoom and can focus very close.

@EricLNZ that was my old phone, can't remember which one, it had a macro lens/function, my new phone Samsung S21 Ultra doesn't but uses the wide angle lens somehow, it can get good close up

Here's a spider in my back bedroom from about 30-40mm away, i couldn't find a better subject right now

@xberk Thanks, you sure got through a lot of wine! I've two groups of friends who regularly used to go on cruises and bring back videos from all over the planet but not at the moment. Everything has changed with COVID.

Dexcon wrote on 10/5/2021, 6:40 AM

@xberk  ... thank you for the memories. I went into Napier on the Dawn Princess in 2014 (now a renamed P&O ship if it has survived CV19 or has not been on-sold), and the porting at Napier is the tightest most complicated manoeuvre I've experienced on the many cruises that my wife and I have taken over the years. Your Cunard ship looks like it is the Queen Elizabeth given its vertical rear profile (all the rear balconies are directly above each other). We sailed on the QE in early 2019 from Fremantle to Melbourne when Cunard homeported the QE in Australia - the first time Cunard have ever homeported one of their ships outside the UK.

The Queen Victoria is much the same as the QE except that it has a 'raked' rear profile, and we sailed on the QV in 2016 from San Francisco to Melbourne. We sailed on the edge of Cyclone Winston - the worst cyclone to ever hit the South pacific in recorded history. What an amazing experience! The voyage didn't include Napier but did include other New Zealand ports like Akaroa - what a great country New Zealand is - I love NZ.

@EricLNZ  ...

... but then everything is bigger that comes from Australia!

... including Melbourne now being the longest (biggest length of time) locked down city in the world. What an appalling title we now have! We've gone from being the - or one of the - most livable cities in the world, to being one of the most pathetic cities in the world.

... I've two groups of friends who regularly used to go on cruises and bring back videos from all over the planet but not at the moment.

There is something to be optimistic about - international aviation is starting up again in AU on 14 November when Qantas resumes flights to some international destinations (double vacc required). And today, NZ's PM has apparently abandoned the idea of zero CV cases.

I am now more confident of being able to go to Europe in mid-June next year. My Sony FDR-AX100E is just itching to go away again. And I've just finished my lengthy Vietnam / Cambodia / Singapore travelogue from Dec 19 /Jan 20 so I want to edit again.
