@set Hi Set. Nicely done; nicely run. I bought the Osmo Pocket also, and I've been very disappointed. Have shot about 100 clips so far, and almost none of them usable, due to extreme moire. I'm hoping the ND filters will help, as suggested by DJI support. I've found that here in Florida, with the bright sun, the camera in video mode is shooting with shutter speed of 1/1000 to 1/1250. I've tried "motion blur" in Vegas Pro 16, and all I get is blurred moire. Not usable.

Someone suggested that the moire is more apparent because I am viewing on a 1080P monitor, and not a 4K monitor. Hoping to watch it on a friend's 4K monitor today. Any other suggestions?

A bit early up this morning (not my behaviour since retirement 13 years ago 😁) to see and shoot this from our terrace. GOPro 5 timelapse and 4K video, Vegas 15, first speeded up max by Ctrl-drag and than further with video envelope 100% speed up.

Hi Len, currently can't suggest a lot, since I still practicing it... this run is my first time using pocket... even I had 'Gimbal overheat' warning appear.. probably the gimbal working extremely hard while running...

@set Thank you for your reply, Set. There is another setting on Pocket that can lead to overheating. I believe it is setting on 120 fps. I will check it soon.

I was shooting at 4K-60p yesterday, tried the highest setting... also, the gimbal responsiveness is set to High - possibly this is the cause, maybe need to try slow.

As for moire, this is the only clue I found: https://mavicpilots.com/threads/how-to-remove-moire-aliasing.13317/

For viewing on a 1080p monitor I would setup a 1080p project and render to 1080p. Vegas does a good job when downscaling 2160p to 1080p.

My grand daughter changed swim teams and is swimming in the winter, or as close to winter as we get around here.

This is the first use of the Magix AMD VCE render template in Vegas 15. The video was shot in UHD and delivered in UHD at 24 Mbps. I'm never happy with what I get back from youtube. Like the contractor said, "It looks really good from my house." Maybe not from your house.

Just finished a music video for a client that was edited using Vegas Pro 16. I just switched to Vegas in December so this is the first "professional" project I edited with the software and I am amazed how much faster it is to edit in Vegas. This particular video had 33 video layers (separate layer for each take). I was amazed how well Vegas handled all those video layers stacked up.

This was a fun video game montage I made for a friend a few years ago

xberk wrote on 1/29/2019, 12:23 PM

Matthias-Claflin .. So 33 video tracks .. one for each "take" .. but what was a "take"? I find it interesting that you used so many video tracks. I don't do music videos so I'm not sure what other people do.

@xberk I wondered about that myself. I watched the video, and thought it well done. I play in a group (not rock...LOL) and to me, 33 takes seems like a lot. And how you match-sync 33 takes sounds like a nightmare. Kudos.

Matthias-Claflin wrote on 1/29/2019, 2:15 PM

Well I'm glad you asked.

So the top video layer is b-roll. This is anything that doesn't have to be synced with the music. Each layer under that is performance shots. Each take, from each location, from each angle from the beginning of the song to the end. I typically shoot 3-5 minute songs, so I encourage all the artists to do the entire song from every angle. I've had several people in the past want an angle of a specific verse and we didn't shoot it because they told me they didn't want it when we started. Now I shoot every shot, every location with the entire song. I have several takes of each angle typically because rarely is the artist happy with just a single take. It typically takes a couple before they are comfortable and moving naturally.

Beyond that, I actually forgot to record audio (had my C100 set to ext mic only and had no external mic plugged in) for the first half of the shoot (up till the group shots) so I had to sync that by eye. Luckily I used my Canon HF G10 for the stabilizer shots, so it had sound to sync. For the rest of it, I had them play the song through a speaker loud enough that it drowned out most of the noise they were making and it synced up nicely.

A quick breakdown of all the layers:

Layer 1 – B-Roll

Layer 2 – Bass (solo – stabilizer)

Layer 3 – Drums (solo – stabilizer)

Layer 4-5 – Live Shots

Layer 6-10 – Guitar (solo – stabilizer)

Layer 11-12 – Guitar (solo – medium/close-up – tripod)

Layer 13-14 – Guitar (solo – wide – tripod)

Layer 15-18 – Singer (solo – stabilizer)

Layer 19-21 – Singer (solo – medium/close-up – tripod)

Layer 22-23 – Singer (solo – wide – tripod)

Layer 24-25 – Group shots from a previous shoot (unused – didn’t fit the video well)

Layer 26-28 – Singer (group – medium – handheld)

Layer 29-30 – Singer (group – medium/close-up – tripod)

Layer 31-34 – Group (group shots – wide – tripod)

Layer 35 - The song.

EDIT: This is just how I do things, not every music video production works the same way. Not everyone edits the way I do. I previously used Premiere for this and couldn't stack them up on each other like I did in Vegas because Premiere would crash if I exceeded 15(ish) layers. Didn't have this problem with Vegas while my files were on my SSD. When they were on my NAS drives, it wouldn't let me edit smoothly with 30+ layers (even with proxies) but that doesn't bother me, I use my SSD for all my working files anyway.

We shot this video over 3 days. The first day got scrapped because the band wanted to change direction. However for the two days it took to shoot everything in this video, we likely played the song 40+ times.

Just wanted to throw this in this thread.

Just finished the second music video I'm doing with the band Drama Scream.

I shot the entire video on a Canon C100 with a Rokinon 35mm T1.5. We shot it over 2 shoot days (one per location). It was cut and color corrected in Vegas and vfx shots were done in Hitfilm. I'm really happy with the way this came out.

Len Kaufman wrote on 3/2/2019, 4:27 PM

Nice work. What was the audio setup/environment for this? Also, how did you synch it?

Matthias-Claflin wrote on 3/2/2019, 4:42 PM

In this situation the band has their own "portable" PA system that they use for live gigs in locations with a poor or nonexistent PA system. I had them place a speaker off camera and we ran the song to it from a phone via an aux cable. We were lucky enough to have ample power in both locations (though the power at the barn was from a 50' 8/3 extension cable). That said in post, it was just a matter of finding points that were easy enough to hear to sync up or obvious enough visually that I could sync that way. Some takes were easier by eye and others by ear. After I would sync up one take, in one location, it was typically easier to sync other takes from that location to that take instead of the song itself.

At the time I was on a kick of trying to generate more complex elements within vegas. I remember making like a stop watch by using the clock wipe over 60 seconds and using the composite envelopes with the pen tool thing to quickly create blinking for a button, and some other such things.
