PREVENT Background Music from INCREASING during silences

klever187 wrote on 3/26/2024, 2:13 PM

I make videos with a voice over and background music. I've made over 500 videos and never experienced this problem in the past. Basically, when I pause in my voice over or have a silent moment, my background music increases to the sound of my voice, then when i speak it drops back down to the -10db that I set it to. I want my music to ALWAYS stay at -10db. Where is the option to do this i've looked everywhere but cannot find it.

Thank you!

What software are you using? Vegas does not do this unless you have some effect applied, or if your sound card has an AGC built in that needs to be disabled.

I'm using Vegas 20

below is how i have my tracks set up and i checked to see if I had some effect by accident but i don't 😕 How would I disable this AGC if i do have it?

Does the wave form on the timeline increase in size during the VO silent parts? If not, it is probably a setting in your soundcard.

The waveform remains the same size...What should I check for on my soundcard and how do i check if I have AGC enabled?

@klever187 Vegas doesn't ordinarily do that by default. I wonder if you inadvertently put an audio fx on the master bus. Look at the FX button above the Master Bus slider on the upper right. Or see if any of the other buttons up there are lit.

Looks like it may have been that thanks for the help guys, if it happens to arise again i'll update here. But I went into the Master Bus > Mixing Console Icon and these effects where on but not sure if by default because it does appear in each audio track i have:

@klever187 those three effects are default on every audio track and are all set, by default, to "do nothing".

VEGAS will not automatically make your music get louder if there is no voice present. Something else is causing it as has been mentioned above.
