Pro20 crashing/freezing

Ash-Williams wrote on 10/31/2022, 10:19 AM

Good afternoon all,

I have recently purchased Vegas Pro 20, I'm using it to edit shorts but will be using it to to do long form content soon. Unfortunately the program keeps not responding on me, at first I thought it was because everything was on my external HDD so I put everything on to my m.2 to edit but it's still happening, every time forcing me to have to end task through task manager. Obviously this is causing me to have to spent a lot more time than necessary to edit and time is money.

Any help and advice would be really appreciated. Pc specs below.

Cheers
Ash

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600MHz 32gb

Apologies but I'm not the most technical minded, taught myself everything from the beginning so far.

How do I find that info for you?

Damn so it's a common thing, I'll have to have a proper read through that tomorrow when I have a bit more time.

@Ash-Williams One (of the) reason(s) of Vegas turning nonresponsive could very well be disk access as you mentioned before (having a HD external drive). If I have a nonresponsive issue with Vegas it is usually when it tries to access my sleeping Hard drives. I only use my hard drives as archive, so I set them to sleep automatically (via power settings in windows) after a few minutes of no activity (so my PC is more silent and uses less energy and tear and wear on the HDD).

All my Vegas stuff is on the C drive SSD NVMe and other NVMe SSD disks. Unfortunately, Vegas does seem to have the need to take a peek in the HD drives with certain actions (I presume when Vegas explorer is triggered or some other obscure reason); then the HD are woken which causes non-responsiveness which in most cases resolves itself with patience, but it can fail, hang or time out I presume...

@Ash-Williams

"...every time forcing me to have to end task through task manager."

In this link, I describe a method for finding more information about your system when the hang or crash happened.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/frequent-long-freezing-all-of-a-sudden--137637/#ca861860

If you're not used to reading Windows Event Logs you could cut straight to the Reliability Monitor.

There, you'll see a summary of events that have happened in your system.

"... taught myself everything from the beginning so far."

Now, I've joined you grade-school teachers and taught you something. No one can replace them, because they taught you to read.

This is what I'm getting when it happens. Stopped interacting with windows, Is there a setting somewhere I haven't got set right (I haven't delved into Pro20's settings as I don't want to make things worse,) perhaps something along the lines of using GPU instead of CPU to do the hard work when editing, obviously CPU has to do something I know that.

It's silly now, I started a new project, imported the clip off my m.2, removed the audio then tried to trim the clip and instantly stop responding. Hugely affecting my productivity and is going to end up being a "Loss of Earnings" soon, I just loved vegas 19 and know it well so very hesitant to move over to say, Davinci resolve.e

UP!!!! I thought I'd fixed this but it's STILL happening.

Is there a way to get actual tech support quickly?

RogerS wrote on 11/7/2022, 8:03 AM

Go to the top of the page and click support and then "contact support."
