Problem playing rendered video on Samsung QLED TV

I'm resurrecting this post as I now have a new camcorder (Sony FDR-AX53). During our recent USA 5+week trip, I recorded all video with 5.1 surround sound. It's not something I particularly desired for our final video but I now find that it makes our chatter in the car more audible than in stereo!

I first quickly rendered our "rushes" for pre-viewing on our Samsung QLED TV with the Sony AVC AVCHD template, forgetting all of the above and then finding the above problems with rewind and fast forward. It did, however playback with surround sound.

I then rendered using the recommended setting above (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/problem-playing-rendered-video-on-samsung-qled-tv--117334/#ca731358) which solved the RW/FF problems but, in the process, the sound was only stereo. I have read as much as my brain can absorb online and in the Vegas Pro Help pages but have not come up with a solution.

I see no way of using these render settings and obtaining 5.1 surround sound. I do hope someone can help me here. I am pretty sure the QLED TV won't associate separate video and sound files for playback.

Thanks in advance.

PS I got this wrong, sorry (my memory). I did not get surround sound from ANY render. I had just copy clips straight on to a memory stick for the QLED TV to play back, so only the original clips from the camera were playing with surround sound!

Here's the clip info from the new camcorder:-

@JohnAsh

The most direct way to get surround sound out of Vegas Pro to play on TV is to encode AVC/AAC in Voukoder.

Windows Media Player streams it over the network.

All my Blu-ray players play it.

My TV plays it.

YMMV, but, you always have my Double Your Money Back Guarantee.

@john_dennis Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with this. I have found Voukoder and will install it.

However, I'm swimming way out of my depth here and have a few more questions. The clip info in Vegas shows two audio streams, both 5.1 but one a downmix and the other not??

When I import into the timeline, I get one audio track. Which might it be I wonder? You are showing 5 tracks. Will this work with one?

And, I'm sorry, but I don't get why you rendered the project, then imported the rendered file back in? Probably very obvious but not to my old, addled brain, I'm afraid.

I hate getting beaten on things like this so intend to persist with it.

Incidentally, I had the idea of muxing (with tsMuxer) the mp4 and aa3 files, but it would not accept the aa3 file. I have no way at the moment of determining if the aa3 file is actually 5.1 though that was the setting I used to render using 'Atrac'.

I so appreciate the help I get on this forum! Thank you.

PS Doh! I just realised that I need to set the project properties to 5.1 audio(?). When I drag a clip to the timeline (with 5 audio tracks) now, I get 4 audio tracks for the clip. The first shows Stream 2 channels 1/2, then Stream 2, Channel 3....4...5.

PPS I can't get Voukoder to work in Vegas 19. There was an error on installation which I don't think was complete. It say only compatible up to v18, I think.

@JohnAsh

"The clip info in Vegas shows two audio streams, both 5.1 but one a downmix and the other not??"

Don't be afraid, your camera probably won't have two audio streams. My only source for surround sound media is an over-the-air ATSC transport stream, so I used one from my DVR. Many broadcast TV stations transmit both audio streams and the TV allows the user to listen to the one that suits her. For the demo, I deleted the stereo downmix track before I started recording.

"When I import into the timeline, I get one audio track."

You have to set your Vegas Pro Project Properties to 5.1 Surround before you add media to the timeline.

"I don't get why you rendered the project, then imported the rendered file back in?"

I did that to show you that the 5.1 Surround files were rendered successfully. I always check my work.

" I can't get Voukoder to work in Vegas 19."

This might help you understand which files are needed to make Voukoder work.

@john_dennis Thank you. I am getting nowhere fast. I did install all required files for voukoder and V19 but it would not render. I suspect it's only compatible up to V18 as it states. I have tried another tack, rendering video separately and then rendering a WAV 5.1 audio file but I can't get it to Mux. As this is getting lost on a long thread I'm going to start a new thread on that.
