xberk, I updated this post with section 7, a brief summary of proxy-editing, since your comment on it. See also this recent thread. If I needed proxies in VP14 I would probably use Vegasaur.

Remember, a proxy file can be any file. I have used SD DV files in a HD project as proxies. I use proxy files just to edit the content. Just do the effx on the originals after edit.

If playback is an issue -- does a Proxy workflow in V14 solve it?  I never liked using the Vegas Proxy files as they are larger than the originals and time consuming to prepare.  I think the newest version of Edius allows you to select the size of your proxy files.  In general, where is V14 at on Proxy file workflow compared to other NLEs? 

Vegas will create proxys with a fixed resolution I think. Must be something about 720p. So the good news are that this is nice for HD editing, for UHD editing it is not so great (because you loose with 4K the capability to assess the correct sharpness to some extend). But the proxys do their job - to improve preview capabilities and allow you to edit the footage. So from that side it is fine.

Meanwhile, back on topic -- Thanks Nick for the other thread. I'm still foggy on using proxy files but seems that Vegas does not have the best tool for doing this vs Vegasaur and others.   When I get time I'll experiment with using Handbrake for this.
