question about Vegas Pro 17 Slow Motion plugin

Digital-Larry wrote on 4/11/2020, 1:09 PM

I usually slo-mo my clips by trimming them to the desired length (as far as what's being seen) and then stretching them with CTRL-drag to the proper length in the timeline. I'm not generally going for a set amount of slo-mo but I do sometimes adjust it if I think it's too fast or slow. Here's my question:

a) I trim and stretch a clip on the time line. It's got a zig-zag on the clip.

b) Then I add the Slow Motion plugin and analyze the motion.

c) Then it shows me a slider (which always defaults to 1.0) supposedly this is the speed reduction factor.

d) But wait, my clip is already stretched and running slower than normal. Am I doing this right? Do I need to start with the clip unstretched, analyze the motion, and then adjust the speed ratio for this to work properly?

thx,

  1. Trim the part of the event you want to slomo.
  2. Add slomo FX and analyze motion.
  3. Set the slider to the play back rate you want.
  4. Then goto: and execute extension (to view the result you will need a few cups of coffee).

@3POINT

I read the help text from VP 17, but unfortunately I can't really figure it out.
Please - what is the advantage of this Slow Motion plugin over the "envelope speed"?
I usually use the "envelope speed", which is very practical for me - with the "slow motion FX" I have now made an analysis - you really need a coffee .....

The advantage of this plugin should be that it uses optical flow or morphing to generate the extra needed frames instead of smart resampling or frame doubling which is used with the other slomo methods in Vegas. The disadvantage is that generating extra frames by optical flow or morphing requires a lot of CPU power which makes previewing the result a hard time. Also the quality of optical flow is not always better than with resampling.

My opinion: almost all slomo methods in Vegas are not perfect and not user-friendly.

Thanks for your clarification!
I also use ProDad-respeedR, where I am happy with the calculation of intermediate images (except for very moving subjects). Unfortunately, with RespeedR there is not as good a sliding speed change as with the "envelope speed" in Vegas. RespeedR is also not a plugin and only SAL.
There is simply no "egg-laying-wool-milk-pig" - as we say in Austria .......

@walter-i. Servus, I'm familiar with Austria, unfortunately my next week planned skitrip to Ischgl is cancelled....😭

I know Respeedr. For a sliding speed change between two exactly chosen positions, I use PowerDirector, fast and result is almost perfect, something I'm not able to achieve in Vegas.

I absolutely like the coordination with the envelope speed in Vegas, because I can correct poorly made zooms and pans, and also can perfectly and directly adjust the length of the events to voice over and music.
However, I am often not satisfied with the result, especially when the speed drops towards 0 when the speed decreases or accelerates.

PS: At the moment I am not really good to speak on Ischgl, because we Austrians have produced a nightmare when it comes to dealing with Corona ..........
Business interests were clearly subordinated to health concerns - absolutely unacceptable.

Can you explain/show how to?
