What you see there on your screenshot is it. There is nothing else in that tool.

If you refer to the picture seen in the Vegas Pro help file, this picture is wrong.

j-v wrote on 8/7/2019, 8:41 AM

Did you really start the capture with the red button and than minimize that option to the toolbar so you can capture other screens?

@bryan-c I started a thread with a link to VP17 tutorials etc … https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp-17-tutorials-on-some-of-the-new-bits--116528/

I couldn't make any headway until I looked at the tutorial for Screen Capture, still not completely working as I hoped, more study/testing needed.

bryan-c wrote on 8/7/2019, 8:58 AM

FYI I am not a novice when it comes to screen capturing. I have used Camtasia, Adobe captivate, and FX Pro for years. I have been using Vegas Pro since V12. This situation seems to be a technical glitch. Per the Vegas manual i should see as below.

I do not see the toolbar on the left. But even worse than that is I cannot frame my capture if I cannot preview what it is i am capturing. I only get the cable scramble.

Former user wrote on 8/7/2019, 9:34 AM

@bryan-c Well Bryan, I AM a novice when it comes to screen capture. I saw the manual pdf differences also.

My guess is that there were changes to the program after the manual "went to press".

j-v wrote on 8/7/2019, 9:48 AM

I do not see the toolbar on the left.

There is almost the same toolbar on the bottom with Vegas own buttons, like they are being used in Vegas.
I also see exactly what I am capturing by looking at the screen that's being captured.
But because you did not answer my former question I 'm not planning to proceed with this question of you.

That's what I said above. The picture in the manual is wrong. Acutally there's nothing else in the screen capture GUI as what your own screenshots show.

bryan-c wrote on 8/7/2019, 10:47 AM

Okay, I accept that.

In the Vegas screen capture is it a 100% screen or is it sizable? Camtasia allows custom screen selections. I know this isn’t Camtasia but I’ve yet to see a value to this screen capture.

Marco. wrote on 8/7/2019, 11:00 AM

At the moment it only captures the full screen and it always captures at 30 fps. And on my system I did not yet succeed in recording the microphone audio (works in Windows and Vegas Pro, dead in Vegas Capture).

I'll wait for further improvements.

Mine

Probably I use another program, but which one ?
It says Vegas Capture.

Your screenshot is not different from the one bryan-c shows in his first post (except he cropped the window borders):

Video source(s), audio sources (s), timecode and three buttons of which only two can be usefully used. That's it.

D7K wrote on 8/7/2019, 9:18 PM

Did not see this post before I posted mine. Same problem as Brian (OP). RX480 8 gig card and HDMI out to 4K TV. Vegas runs fine so it must be in the code of screen capture, had Vegas, Power Point, and Word running at the time of the screen grab. Unfortunate as I wanted to use this for a Saturday presentation.

D7K wrote on 8/7/2019, 9:37 PM

Thought it might be the 4K settings, turned the setting down to 1080 and ran as administrator, so no joy in mudville tonight.

D7K wrote on 8/8/2019, 8:44 AM

Thinking that 4K is the issue, I loaded VP17 on my "astronomy laptop" and here is the result:

It looks to me that this is a real issue and needs to addressed. Don't want to fill a real tech support request if someone else has done it.

bryan-c wrote on 8/8/2019, 8:59 AM

That is exacly what I am seeing. That cable scramble. I think it is an error on their part.

BTW how did you change the resolution from 4k to 1080?

D7K wrote on 8/8/2019, 11:25 AM

Brian, I just went into windows control and change the moniter resolution from 4K to 1080P. Will try doing the same thing in the Radeon control center and see what happens.Edit comment no resolution changes available in the Radeon control panel. But in the end if Vegas can see our monitors no reason that screen capture can't, IMHO, probably just needs a bit more code written.

ByronK wrote on 9/11/2019, 3:47 AM

Has this issue been resolved? Will Vegas capture at 60 fps for game captures? If not I'll continue to use OBS and wait for this issue to be resolved before purchasing 17.

bryan-c wrote on 9/12/2019, 4:51 AM

I gave up trying. It’s a software flaw that does not work as advertised. I am not going to spend my time to fix their error.

ByronK wrote on 9/12/2019, 9:17 PM

Thanks bryan-c!

Guess I'll wait and continue to use OBS.

I don't understand how can they advertise that this is a feature and it not work?? Deceptive marketing??

Vegas has missed the boat with the many YouTubers who screen capture game their play and make tutorials. Screen capture should have the option for 60 fps and 4K. Most PC gamers use PC and Vegas is a PC app. I'm sure there are lots of gamers out there that would like an all in one non-subscription solution. The only other PC NLE that can screen capture is Corel Video Studio and Magix Video Edit Pro but only captures at 30fps. As Steve Jobs said back in the lost interviews and likely applies to Vegas, the sales and marketing people must be making the decisions.

"They (sales and marketing people) have no conception of a good product vs a bad one, they have NO idea of the craftsmanship that's required of how to take a good idea and turn it into a good product. They really don't have any feeling in their hearts to want to help the customer..." -Steve Jobs.

I'm sure Gary R, engineers and programmers feel the same frustration that Steve felt dealing with these !d10+$.

If you have a Nvidia card, you can ignore Vegas Screen Capture.

Nvidia Capture is not CPU consuming and is fully supported by the GPU

@pierre-k "I don't understand how can they advertise that this is a feature and it not work?" Just purchased Vegas Pro 17 - When I try using the integrated Screen Capturing Tool (File menu > Screen Capture) a window appears but there is no left column to choose a Video Source from. Get fed-up wasting my time I cancelled my order for a refund - I'm back to using VP16 and OBS

Thanks Peter-Jones but I don't have an NVIDIA card still using an ATI Radion. Also from the research I've done OBS can utilize graphic card acceleration and records better quality video than Shadowplay.

The thing with OBS is that there are so many features that there's a pretty steep learning curve to get it to work properly.. (;

One feature I really like in OBS is the ability to record to an intermediate .mkv. If something should go wrong, i.e. system or program crash, you can recover the recording by remuxing the .mkv to a .mp4 in OBS.

bryan-c wrote on 9/13/2019, 5:21 PM

Thanks for the feedback .

Therin lies the rub. I do have use an Nvidia card. I just don’t use Vegas for capture. I use Camtasia which is flawless and can export to any video format. Then I can import to Vegas anyways.

As far S I’m concerned this thread can fade into the sunset.

I get no video screens show at all in the secreen capture window, even with a second monitor attached. The main video card is nvidia. Can someone explain what cards do work and why nvidea doesn't. I'm using a top of the range Thinkpad so the video card is high quality. Robert
