Shocking Behavior Vpro18 Under Windows 20H2 19042.964

We are awaiting an urgent update due to the AC3-5.1 problem introduced by current Windows 10.

And for my astonishment few minutes ago, I started Vegaspro and it vanished immediately without any statement.

Just started up and vanished away!

By considering of a system reset I suddenly remembered I've converted some clips with AC3-5.1 into AAC-5.1 trying to solve the audio problem - So I deleted them.

And Vegaspro started with no flash-out. I see, its explorer is located in that folder where the deletion has been executed.

This is the converted file that causes Vegaspro disappear after starting:

@Yelandkeil I assume you have seen this thread, with the temporary Windows fix?

If you convert your original file to stereo AAC does the problem go away?

Users in this thread had success after removing KB5001330.

@JN-

Yes. Even with AC-3 stereo no problem here. I just tried the AAC surrounding codec and it failed.

I've read the posts.

I deleted the KB5001330 and Windows installed another KB5001391.

can do nothing but waiting. Thanks.

You could also pause the Windows update for up to 35 days.

@Yelandkeil This was my summary of the 5.1 issue ...

Summarising the AC-3 issue with respect to 5.1 audio.

Magix feedback ...

"Starting with recent versions of Windows 10, the VEGAS line of products uses native Windows tools for stereo AC-3 encoding and decoding. It is not possible to encode 5.1 AC-3 files since they are not supported through the operating system. To encode 5.1 audio, use another audio codec such as WAV."

My take on addressing it ...

#1 Transcode to another codec, say, AAC or WAV.

#2 In VP the Sony AVC and the WAV codecs support 5.1.

#3 Before using items #2 above, set the “Project properties” Audio to 5.1

#4 Create a new 5.1 render template using either one of #2 items.

#5 Note that these new render templates will only be visible to you when #3 is applied.

I have an m2ts test file with 7 audio streams, each 6 channels. I have the Windows fix applied in the link I gave above. If I drag the test file to VP18 it won’t open, but it does in VP16. This may be because there were codecs that came with vp16, but are no longer with vp18. It’s a right mess.

If I convert the test file using my util "Copies video, converts audio 2 AAC" (via my signature) the file plays ok in VP18, but the audio has to be set to stereo in the util. It outputs a single audio stereo stream, not 7. File output type set to .mp4.
