"We were informed this morning by Sony that the press release was accidental, and that we gotta still keep things under wraps for the time being."

Not unlike the "accidental" Vegas 4 leak last year. I notice they haven't removed these posts. It's nice of them to have taken pity on the poor souls who keep asking when V5 will be coming out and what features will it include.

Now that Sony has apparently pulled the news release, maybe somebody has a text copy that they can post on this forum for those who missed it. I know it may not be 100% accurate, but it's still good to get an idea of the upcoming releases for Vegas and DVDA.

Here ya go...

SONY UNVEILS VERSION 5.0 OF VEGAS SOFTWARE

PARK RIDGE, N.J., March 2, 2004 - Sony will introduce version 5.0 of its Vegas software, the latest upgrade to its award-winning, state-of-the-art video and audio non-linear editor, at NAB in Las Vegas next month.

"This version will establish Vegas as the premier application for professional media production," said Bob Ott, vice president of Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division.

The latest version of the Vegas software increases its functionality with even more sophisticated features, including 3D planar motion, film-style 5.1 surround panning, external control surface support, Loops for ACID ™ "loop property" recognition, customizable keyboard mapping, real-time event reverse, network rendering, Sony DSR-DU1 and DSR-DR1000 disc recorder support, J-H3 HDCAM player support and much more.

Vegas software provides a broad range of non-linear video and audio editing applications with advanced real-time A/V production across unlimited tracks and offers powerful audio mixing, video compositing, color correction, titling, streaming media creation, surround sound production and an extensive array of additional professional features.

Sony is also announcing the release of its new Vegas+DVD Production Suite, which includes Vegas 5, a Dolby® Laboratory-certified multichannel AC-3 encoder, and an upgraded version of its DVD Architect authoring and production software.

New features in the DVD Architect 2 software include: subtitle and alternate audio track support, enhanced disk optimization tools, external monitor previews, support for 24P DVD encoding and much more.

"Vegas software is already an overwhelming favorite among digital video and audio professionals," said Ott. "The software's enhanced capabilities in the Vegas 5.0 version and its integration into the Sony professional production workflow will now make it the most comprehensive software package available for professional video, audio and DVD production."

I seriously hope titling is addressed better in this version. Sadly, I believe titling to be one of the weakest points of VV4.

hmmm..... "accidental," huh?

Like the leaked screenshots of Vegas 4 last year were "accidental?"

Methinks I spy a trend. I think the marketing guys at Sony know EXACTLY what they're doing. Look at the buzz they've already created with this "accidental" release. Not only do they whet people's appetite for an official release, but they also get a chance to gauge public reaction to those features that were "accidentally" leaked.

Oops. Didn't read VideoCurmudgeon's post above. You beat me to it!

OK, let's say I'm a Sony officer (I'm not, it's a hypothetical). I post the "mistaken" press release and check the Vegas forum. All at once, it's like seeing the flock of seagulls in Finding Nemo, all saying, "mine...mine...minemine...mine....mine..."

OK, Sony, here you go: I have actually AVOIDED purchasing various software for my current feature film project, waiting specifically for the next Vegas release. I am actually waiting for your whistle, to spend my money....Wow. What a product.

Now that's what I call "a buzz!"

Sony should get on the ball with marketing. I already received my email from Discreet with regards to NAB.

Even Adobe came out with plenty of info to get the masses salivating for their program. And Premiere Pro sucks.

Hopefully the release is being re-written and tweaked and filled wth more of the new features.
JJKizak wrote on 3/3/2004, 11:54 AM
Maybe Sony should have a contest---Win this contest and you get to see the programmers create the new stuff, but if you tell anybody what is happening you will be shipped to the Russian Front.

This is strange - it reminds me of something many years ago -

Washington, DC - Whitehouse Press Room :

Reporter - "CNN is reporting explosions in Baghdad . Is the US attacking?"

Press Secretary - "No. We have not started any military action."

Reporter - "CNN is now reporting hearing planes and is broadcasting live. Clearly Baghdad is under attack. Something is going on."

Press Secretary - "The United States is not involved in any military actions against Iraq."

Sony Pictures HQ:

Reporter - "Is Vegas 5 going to be released at NAB?"

Sony Rep - "What would give you that idea?"

Reporter - "Sony Corp released a press package about NAB and annouced it."

Sony Rep - "Sony is not involved in any release information. We have no comment on the alleged announcement."

Remorter - "It seems the NAB press release has had any mention of Vegas removed."

Sony Rep - "As I said earlier, we have no comment on the alleged announcement however the lack of any mention of Vegas in the NAB press release would confirm that at this point there has been no announcement reguarding Vegas in reguards to NAB."

lol. :)

It amusing how DMN forums/the Cow and DV info are scrambling to kill posts about the release...but they are letting this thread here ramble on...hehe....

Same here. I’ve put off buying Sonar 3 until I see what Vegas 5 can do in the audio arena. When I saw a Sony rep ask about what the people on the Vegas Audio forum wanted in the next release, I figured they were adding some nice audio stuff and so I’ve held off buying. I know Vegas 4 is already better than Sonar w.r.t audio recording but I’m a keyboard player so I’d like to see MIDI support and VSTi support but I’m not holding my breath. The press release did say that Vegas 5 supports ACID Loops which is really great to hear. It’ll be nice to be able to throw a few loops together on the timeline as backing tracks and have their keys and tempos match up.

As Sergeant Schultz would say, "I know nothing!"

JohnnyRoy,

>I’m sure end-actions are there but my point was that this was something that was blatantly missing from DVD Architect 1.0 <

Perhaps they don't want to call attention to the fact that such an important feature wasn't included in 1.0. Just a guess (or a conspiracy theory).

Well I certainly would have liked to read this NEWS but it appears it has been pulled. Anyone have a cache of this anywhere?
rextilleon wrote on 3/3/2004, 1:56 PM
I am getting the distinct sense that the honeymoon is over between Sony and Vegas users--LOL-----
