1) Full timecode support.
2) Ambisonic B Format support.

My top 2.
(How can you call an NLE "Pro" if it doesn't do time code?)

Interestingly, I wrote nearly an identical request list to ushere's:

edl and collaborative tools, and stability.

SCS is doing a good job developing the Vegas ecosystem with OFX (Magic Bullet and Boris FX anyone?), but collaborative tools would really help add utility to my work. If I can get portions of other contracts by being able to collaborate (big in TV and government work) then that makes Vegas not just more valuable to me, but also it becomes more viable in the mind of other editors.

Vegas is still THE best single-user editor bar none (IMHO), but collaborative tools give it (and me) much more utility and opportunity for work.

Peter, solid reply - thank you!

Good to see how the Q&A works. I like that.

Cheers

"Perhaps this is what you recall, as there was a number of posts related to this issue"

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Very likely and I read through the ASIO 2.0 specs and noticed a couple of things that I thought may have been the cause of the issues. Good to hear when I do update everything should work.

Bob.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that I had voted for continued development of Media Manager and several of you added that you too would have added that but that you forgot about it.

I applaud SCS's initiative to obtain feedback from us. It is a very positive response to some of the issues we have been dealing with. As good as the survey is, I think a limitation of spur-of-the-moment surveys - we tend to "scratch" what is "itching" at the moment, and important longer-term concerns may "get forgotten"

A few products I use take an interesting approach to the acquisition of product suggestions/enhancements from users. Typically, they set up a web site that is a categorized, searchable list of requested enhancements. Each product owner is "awarded" a fixed number of votes, say 15. Every time they enter a suggestion it uses at least one vote, more if they wish to attach more importance to the suggestion. They also can and do cast votes for other's suggestions. In at least one implementation, the votes are replenished in the user's pool when the suggestion is selected for implementation.

I'm posting this here because I know SCS is reading this forum and I hope they will at least consider something like this for the future. The benefits I see to this approach are:

VEGAS USERS
1. Vegas users would have an organized view of the most requested/popular requested enhancements over time.
2. They could search for suggestions similar to their interest and vote them up.
3. They can view the status of their suggestions (e.g., open, planned, implememented, rejected, etc.)

SCS
1. SCS would have an ongoing organized feedback mechanism from Vegas users that would be easy to analyze and trend.
2. Because each user would have a limited number of votes to spend, the quality of suggestion improves because users don't want to waste their votes.
3. These forums remain an important part of the process because Vegas users would promote/defend/discuss their suggestions here.

Smugmug is one company that does this. If you want to check out their approach, it is here: http://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug

@farss

This fix was for 10 as I recall.

@Bill de Garis

Ambisonic B: really ? Last time I looked this was still not a commercially supported format. Meridian is the only ihv that supports this, or have others come into the market? What content is available in this format?

What is your need for this? Yes there are some free decoders, but for what audience is this a demand?

@ Peter SonyPCH

Would it be possible to fix 'Print HDV to Tape'?

This has worked fine through VP8 ->10 but has not worked in VP11 Acknowledge as a failing by Tech Support. Just how difficult is this?

@ farss, re ASIO

Indeed Peter is correct. VP10e now has support for all possible ASIO streams: Currently ASIO can only access 254 Inputs and 254 Outputs. That is an ASIO limit. I know this works fine as my soundcard have 256 I/O streams.
The only facility ASIO offers but VP doesn't support is the optional APP = ASIO Positioning Protocol (or ASIO Timecode) which allows sample-locked sync between complying applications and some Hosts; this is big step up from MIDI Timecode, which is only around +/- part of a frame accurate, but of course APP only works in the same PC as there's no current way to pass ASIO streams between computers.

@diverG

Not my area of expertise. I will bring it up to the team.

As we have the attention of SCS in this thread, and since myself and others have mentioned Media Manager, please take a look at this thread. There are some small improvements that could be made to the current Media Manager that could greatly improve its ease of use, but beyond that there is huge opportunity for a more fully functioned Media Manager.
TeetimeNC wrote on 2/20/2012, 5:34 AM
+1 for the referenced Media Manager thread. I wonder if others feel as I do on this - I would happily pay SCS $200 or so extra for a MM that did most of the things in that thread.

Did a word search on this thread just to be sure. I'm the only one so far to mention better stereo 3D integration.

"I'm the only one so far to mention better stereo 3D integration."

That being the case, I would say that was a strong indicator of something.

Peter (Sony PCH),

As long as you are monitoring this thread can you please address the one complaint I stated above that I have been requesting since 2003.

Please update the Credit Roll generator. It hasn't changed since it was first introduced in Vegas 2.0. If there is a reason why please tell us.

John
Jay Gladwell wrote on 2/21/2012, 8:39 AM

John, that was one of the comments I made in the survey, to improve the title generator. I suggested they emulate the one PPro uses. It works very well.

JJKizak wrote on 2/21/2012, 2:12 PM
From what I have read it is a very huge, large, humongous problem to fix. Check what Adam Wilt says. I gaurantee you will not understand what is happening in Vegas titler to cause it to be lousy. The explanation is many pages long.

craftech wrote on 2/23/2012, 4:50 AM
Jay and JJ,

I didn't say titler, I said credit roll generator. It hasn't changed since Vegas 2.0. Surely that amateurish thing can't be hard to fix. I wanted to know if Peter knew why.

John
JJKizak wrote on 2/23/2012, 6:51 AM
I should have said "credit roll generator" . According to Adam Wilt this is a massive fix.

Thank you, I knew there was something missing.

Jay Gladwell wrote on 2/23/2012, 7:15 AM

John, we're all referring to the the same thing, just using different nomenclature. It all falls under the "Media Generator" which also creates text, both static and rolling.

In any case, the "Media Generator" needs a major overhaul, as we've been pointing out over the past 12 years.

I replied 'stability' for all 4 entries. I laughed when I read that many others in this thread have done the same.
