Starting Vegas 15 as admin disables drag-and-drop?!

Hi there,

For more stability I have checked the option 'start as administrator' in the compatibility options of Vegas 15.

However I noticed that I couldn't drag any footage or pics into the timeline anymore?

How on earth is that possible, you give it more rights and less things work inside Vegas?!

Check through this list: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/known-issues-in-the-latest-version-of-vegas-pro--108942/

Unfortunately there's nothing in there related to this.

Nick, any other suggestions?

Nick, any other suggestions?

No. Would have given them if I had.

Entering this into a Google search turns up a few posts where this has happened before. The only solution I read in them is to not run as administrator:

site:www.vegascreativesoftware.info administrator cannot add media to timeline

Is it worth adding to the list?

Thank you guys,

I think it is worth adding to the list if running Vegas as Admin really makes a difference to solve other issues I guess, I haven't noticed if it did? I don't understand why running programs as an admin like this would be needed anyway since I already logon to windows 10 with an account that is in the administrators group, but Microsoft is always good at surprises...

I do get errors in windows sometimes that suggest that I don't have enough rights to do something, that shouldn't happen if things worked like they should work, at least like I have always learned how MS rights work...

Regards,

Marcel

Marcel, can you check your version of .NET Framework and if necessary update it?

And yes, I don’t need to run as admin. This is weird and weird enough to start a “Nick’s Weird List”.

I tried it and I also cannot drag files to Vegas if I run as administrator. But I've never had to do that. I don't think it quite belongs on the "known issues" list, since it's a non-standard way of running Vegas, but I've added it to the FAQ post about troubleshooting startup.

Marcel, where did you get the idea to run Vegas as admin?

Nice.

Hi

This isn't a Vegas thing, its a windows thing. Open a command prompt as non admin and drag a file onto the window and it will show the path to the file, open another command prompt in admin mode and do the same, and it will not get the file you dragged on.

It's a security feature I believe. Because the application has elevated permissions some more dangerous actions or short cuts are restricted.

No fault (for once) with Vegas :-)
